On the back of your modem there is a little hole. Use a pen or a pointy thing to press the button for about 10 seconds then it should come on.

Three things in the system. Modem, router, computer/xbox. You changed the router and problem still exists. The computer/xbox is calling for the data but the modem is stopping it even though your provider doesn't see it stop. Change the modem. Borrow one if you can but I suspect it is going glitchy.

Just got a qwest pk5000z when plugged in power light stays solid green, dsl light stays solid green, then I receive Internet connection.. After about 30 seconds it resets and starts the whole process over....

Are you using the RJ45 ended Ethernet cable?
I've been battling an issue where an Ethernet cable plugged in caused the PK5000Z to reboot approximately every 120-300 seconds (2-5 minutes).
Switching to just the wireless and not having any Ethernet cables plugged in resolved the issue.
Unfortunately this won't work for me since I only use the modem as my gateway to the internet and actually have an Astaro Secure Gateway Firewall that connect to the modem via Ethernet. I'll be contacting their technical support again tomorrow as I've had 3 modems RMA'd and not a single person there at Century Link could figure out what to try except to keep RMAing them.
So anyone else hitting this issue, try using just the wireless instead of the Ethernet Cable.

Why is my embarq 660 series DSL modem box's 1st

Telephone your Internet Service Provider, and have them check that you've paid your monthly fees, and that the DSL-modem at "their" end of your telephone-circuit has not failed.

Try a different DSL-modem, to see if your particular modem has "died".

Check the 2-strand or 4-strand wire from the DSL-modem to the wall-outlet, to make sure that it is properly connected.

Try a different 4-strand wire.

Motorola surfboard sb5101 pc/activity light stays off and all the other lights stay on this problem happened literally from one day to the next and I've had this modem for about 6 years with no...

To have a modem last you six years is very impressive. Most will fry out if not kept on a cooling pad.
I'm sure you've tried the obvious ones; Unplug it, wait 30 secondsPlug it in.
Try to replace the cat5/ethernet cables. Try replacing the coaxial cable.
If you can access the settings page through your web browser you can try to reset it.
1. Open a web browser and go to: 192.168.100.1extlink.gif
2. Click the "Configuration" option at the top
3. Look near the bottom of the page. There should be a button that says, "Reset All Defaults". Click it once.
4. Once the page refreshes, click the last button at the bottom called, "Restart Cable Modem"

I hope something here works for you.

Modem can't see ethernet card

I'm sure you have tried most of these steps but I'm going to list them any way so we have a complete picture of the trouble shooting process.

First you will want to power cycle the computer and modem, To do this you will need to shout down the computer and disconnect the power cable from the modem . Allow all devices to remain off for 2 minutes. Plug the modem in first. Wait for the modem to establish a connection with the internet service provider(ISP). Depending on the type of modem this can take up to 5 minutes. Then turn on the computers in the home. Next try replacing the Ethernet cable. If still there is no connection from the modem to the router then try another computer. Before you can connect another computer you must power cycle the modem again. If the second PC has the same issue than your modem will need to be replaced.

I hope that information above has helped is some way.
If possible please rate this solution.

Motorola MSTATEA takes long time to "reconnect"

Check the speed and call ISP tech support to run the line test
Before calling them do a complete power cycle
Turn the modem off and the computer off and router if any
Wait for 30 seconds and turn the modem on and wait for the lights to turn solid
Once ready turn router if you have else computer
Delete the temporary internet files browsing cookies, cache memory.
If the modem turns too hot after running for an hour please replace the modem
DSL light blinking green indicates that there s no proper signal to the modem
Check the wall jack for any loose contacts
If you have any filter check them too
Isolate them and try with it
Change them if possible

My dodo wireless broadband is very slow

Not necessarily modems fault. How old is your PC and have you added anything lately that might slow it down. And have you run a virus scan lately?
Virus and worms can slow you down as well as not enough memory.

Wont connect. power light is red. wireless light is green. i have a 2701hg-b 2 wire. i ve tried diconnecting, resetting, but the gateway remains the same. what do i do?

I've got the same issue, 2 wire claims that whrn the power light is red, the modem is bad and must be replaced. I would try and power the modem from another circuit before replacing. I am replacing mine today

Try to power cycle the modem.. turn off modem and the computer for about 5 minutes... then try to power it on.. wait for the lights on the modem to turn green and then try to connect... you should be connected. good luck

Ethernet vs. usb

FYI for those people trying to use a ethernet and usb cable from a cable modem - it may work for a while but it won't work forever - your ISP will only allow one IP address out of the modem unless you pay for additional addresses (then you need a switch). Each device you have on the modem is fighting for that IP and eventually it will just quit working (if it works at all).

If you want more than one computer on your network (on the Internet or sharing printers/files, etc) then you need a router or a gateway (cable modem/router combo which I DON'T recommend).
