Question about Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit Sound Card

5 Answers

Sound Problem When I am playing a video game (Dungeons and Dragons Online) my sound will sometimes hang up. It sorta sounds like a CD skipping really fast. The game will continue to work but the sound will not stop studdering untill I exit the game. At that time nothing will play a sound in Windows untill I reboot. I have a Sound Blast Live 24bit sound card, and the most recent drivers, running winXP. This has been a long running problem, and any help would be great...

I tried your solution, and I still have the same problem,. I also tried running my on-board sound, and I still encounter the same problem... ;-( Could this be a Motherboard issue?

Try removing the card & cleaning the copper leads on the card with alcohol. Than do the same with the slot, only this time use a cotton swab. Not dripping. Allow the slot to dry, use canned air to blow it out. Re-connect the card firmly & evenly. Try again. If you sill have the same trouble, it's the card & not your system.
It wouldn't hurt to run windows system Defrag.

I have the exact same problem with my acer aspire one. Just recently is started distorting with a mechanical sound...skipping on the videos and making it impossible to actually listen to anything or watch any videos. I thought it might just be an isolated problem until i noticed it happening during startup, etc. I have not found a solution yet but am updating the audio driver. Let me know if you resolved this issue! Thanks!

Sound card?

this could be a result of the software malfunction ...i'm talking about i-tunes,if your computer plays other sounds,it clearly shows that its not a problem with the sound card which is nothing but the hardware for playing sounds in the computer.

Whenever i go to play my windows media player, it doesnot play.It shows message sound device not install. Please install sound device. Please advice how can i install the sound device.

Do you have the cd that came with your computer? If so then try this:
1. Go to Control Panel/System/device manager
2. Look for the sound, video and game controllers. Click on the device (if any) and then right click and choose properties. In Device Status, does it say operating normally? If not, then go back to where y ou click on the device and right click again, choosing uninstall.
3. At the top of the window choose Action/Scan for Hardware Changes. It should locate your sound chip. Then follow the prompts. If it can't find the driver already on your computer, then get the Cd that came with your PC and follow the prompts to install the sound driver from there. Hopefully this will solve your problem.

Sound problem on my HP desktop

Try going into the control panel - Sounds. Find the different items that can have sounds. There you can select a sound and play it. Do you hear it? If so, it's not the computer or card setup. If you don't hear any of the sounds there, it's probably the sound card (either hardware or drivers). The CD plays through the soundcard so it's not likely the hardware.

As to the keyboard control, that's likely HP specific drivers that are missing or wrong. If you reinstalled Windows on this machine - you may not have all the original drivers that came with the machine, especially if you downloaded them from HP support. Sometimes those "special" functions are hard to find.

Hope that gives you something to work with,

These days they make pretty good sound cards on-board. If your playing lots of games, they may requie certain sound and may not run on your computer.

It all depends on what your using your computer for. If you want the best surround sound you will need a 7.1 Channel Sound card. But if you are happy with your sound card, then why change it! If it ain't broke, why fix it? Depending on your circumstances you may only use your computer, for work, internet and some games. Your inbuilt card would be great. But if you like to have the best of everything, then you would splash out and buy a new sound card with the works and play heaps of games and watch plenty of movies!
