Question about Televison & Video

2 Answers

I have a Mintek portable DVD player, model# MDP-1810. I got it as a Christmas gift through It was great, and worked perfect until last week. The on/off switch on the side broke. It no longer "clicks" when you turn it on or off, it is just loose. Therefore, you can't turn it on. The person I got it for really loves it, and she has had several players before this one, that didn't last more than a year or so, and never worked as good as this one. Is there anyway I can send this one back to get that switch fixed? She really doesn't want another one, or a replacement, unless that's the only way you do things like this. I have the original box, and could send it back to you safely, if you could repair it for us. Thank you. Waiting to hear from you. Belinda Pate, or my phone is 903-885-9450

    Well, Lemmor,
I spent almost$100 on this DVD and I wouldn't think it would have to be sent to the Phil. for repair.
Thanks for your quick reply, but I think I'll see if there may be another option for me out there. Thanks again, and may God bless!

Thanks for the info. I didn't know the co. went under. I am a "fix it" type person my-
self, but I didn't want to mess up my warrenty. So, your info. helped me feel much better about trying to fix it myself. After all it is seemingly, a very simple problem, and if I can't fix it, no real loss. I'd just buy a new one. (And,hopefully, from a more solid co.!) Do you happen to have a list of some more reliable co.'s?

Hello madam!!!
good day...
there are many way of repairing things, but if ever we could repair it (even for free) wouldn't the price of sending it to us be much greater or equal if you'd have/buy a new one of the SAME MODEL.
i'm from Philippines...
shipping cost, reliability/warranty of the repair and of course trust to the one you're sending it to. ISN'T that toooo much risk on your part.
have a new one!!! of the same model of course.
that's my advice Madam!!!

if you could manage to open it safely and carefully to recover the broken parts of the switch do it.
use a super glue and stick them together. make sure that it is only the switch cap not the switch itself is broken. check also if the switch's contacts to the board is not loose.

Unfortunately, Mintek is out of business and no support is available. It seems like the switch may have popped off it's mount, so if it were me I'd start removing screws and see if I could pop it back in. There isn't a warranty to void, after all. If that's not your cup of tea and you *really* want it fixed, taking it to a shop like best buy may work. Good luck!

There are a lot of no-name players out there, and this is a case where you usually get what you pay for. Sony isn't going out of business anytime soon, so this may be a good bet:

If that runs to high, you can find a suitable one in your range on this page:

Hope it works out for you!
