Question about JVC GR-D32 Mini DV Digital Camcorder
JVC has received reports that in certain circumstances,
the following models may,
while in the camera mode, show no picture, a distorted picture and/or display
“LENS CAP” even though the lens cap is removed.
We have identified the probable cause as a failure of the CCD image sensor.
Repairs of units exhibiting these problems as a result of
a defect in the CCD image sensor will
be made free of charge at a JVC Authorised Service Centre even if the unit is outside warranty.
Please call our Consumer Support Department on 0870-330-5000 to obtain your free repair. We apologise for any inconvenience and we appreciate your understanding and support.
Please note that this offer expires on 30th June 2009 and is applicable only to failure of the CCD image sensor.

Had the same problem on my GR-D750U and JVC will fix it. See
If you don't have a GR-D-750, try replacing the GR-D750 in the URL above with your product version and see if it returns a solution page.

I have the exactly same problem. Playback is fine. Recording
works...try pointing at a bright object like a light bulb and talking
and then playing back...voila voice is heard and faint image.
SOLUTION: After googling it...it is DEFINITELY a flaw and JVC will repair it for free. In canada you have to send it to the main office not a authorized depot. In the USA there is a website with a form for all the affected models. So it's not only the grd 32u or Grd 32US models that have this defect
