Try another lens. It sort of sounds like the flex in the lens is partially cracked - like what happened to the shutter flexes in the old 35mm point and shoot cameras

Blurry pictures

A common problem is a finger print on the lens. If needed, clean the lens with a microfiber lens cloth. Commonly available with spectacle cleaning kit. Did you drop it? Are you actuating the shutter by "squeezing" the button and not pushing on it, moving camera around? Try using a shaky hand setting, often indicated with a hand icon and wavy lines, indicating movement.

Shutter working very slow in AV or P mode, will only work in Auto Was trying out my new lense today when this happened a EOS 75-300 Canon Lense Worked for a short while, when i put my other lens on it...

If the camera works fine in fully automatic mode, but onot in AV or P, it is likely your settings. Trying increasing your ISO (larger number) and increasing your aperture (smaller number). If you don't have sufficient light or a fast enough lens, the shutter be force to operate more slowly. If the camera also has issue in automatic mode, then I would try the following:

Turn off the camera and remove the lens (in a clean, dust-free environment) and lightly clean the contacts on the lens and camera body with isopropyl alcohol. Once your sure the contacts and surrounding surfaces are clean and dry, re-attach the lens. Power on and try...

It won't take pictures sometimes. push the shutter button and nothing happens.

The Nikon D40 in Auto Focus mode will only allow the shutter to operate when the image is in focus. When looking through the viewfinder, the bottom edge provides information relative to what you are looking at. See the image below:

steve_con_1.gif

Item 2 is the focus indicator. It must be illuminated to allow the shutter to release. If it is not illuminated, the lens has not been able to determine the correct focus. This can happen when attempting to take a picture in low light conditions. Make sure that the front facing "focus assist lamp" on the camera (between the shutter release and lens) has not been blocked or disabled (Settings Menu # 09) and try again. Many times, you will see and or hear the lens "hunt" for proper focus - the lens will travel from one end of its focus range to the other trying to find focus. When it can't, it stops and prevents the shutter from releasing. You can get around this "unable to focus" issue by changing the position of the switch on the lens to "Manual Focus" mode, detailed below:

If a lens has an "A - M" switch, move it to "M" to manually focus. If the switch says "M/A - M " then leave on M/A (unless you're going to be taking several or more in manual mode), as these lenses may be focused manually at any time in either position. As soon as you tap the shutter button in M/A you return to autofocus.

More advanced lenses, like the 18-200mm, 70-300mm VR and 18-135mm, and any lens with an M/A position, may be focused manually at any time without moving any switches. Leave them in their A or A/M positions.

I hope this helps and good luck!

Tried to take pictures of lightening last night and couldn't. My lens kept going in and out and wouldn't focus so wouldn't allow me to shoot. Then I kept getting a BUSY across the screen. ...

For this kind of pictures, Don't try to focus on a lightning, it is to quick and mabe the overall brightness is not enough for your camera to focus.
So you can try to focus on something at infinity, if you manage then, put your focus on manual before re focusing, this way you will be able to take as many pictures as you want.

You can also try to focus manually directly.

And for you information the best way to take a lightning picture is to put your camera in bulb mode, use a remote control, open the shutter and close it as soon as you'v seen a lightning.

Hope this helps.
and good shooting !

Horizontal lines and blurred pics.---- when seen in scren pics are clear but as soon as u click it either becomes blurred or shows horizontal lines. sometimes i find blank. i wud like to know the reason...

Hi!
It's a lens shutter problem. There are usually two causes - a broken shutter cable (it moves inside the lens as you zoom - as the lens move) or stuck shutter blades - if wet or something adhesive got in. If the shutter doesn't work, the camera cannot control the amount of light taken, so the pictures if taken in normal or bright conditions are very bright and have horizontal lines. I'm afraid you will have to give it away for a repair. Both problems are considered hard to repair and could end up with changing of the shutter or lens. It should be an expensive repair so I would just get another camera.

Sorry for the bad news, but I hope it will help you!

Pentax MZ50/ZX50 - no photo when shutter is pressed

first make sure the mirror is fully down. if down
take your MZ50 to a camera store and try a different lens. if it does the same thing then your camera needs repaired. flex circuit,
if the different lens works then the lens needs repaired.

Shutter won't close all the way

The lens cover of PSA60 opens along with the move of the objective lens. Normally the camera will sound an error beep when the lens does not end to the end position -- the lens cover is also not fully opened. In reverse, the lens will be retracted when the camera is switched off.
The "shutter" (outside lens cover) might have something stuck inside the blades or other mechanical parts that prevents the lens cover fully closed. Try to blow with a clean air (no hot air - because it can damage the electronics or plastics).
Or maybe the blades are probably not flat that may create resistance on the surface. Try to flatten the blades by hands.
Or maybe the mechanical systems need to be calibrated (by Canon service center).
My suggestion, try to exchange/trade-in your PSA60 with the latest model at the Canon center, because I have done it last year (trade-in with PS S5IS).

IR-300 Olympus

I had what sounds like the same problem. The camera was dropped and the shutter was stuck open. Just kept showing error message.
As I felt I had nothing to lose I began tapping it on a soft book and the shutter started to appear. I then shut it just using the end of my finger. When I then turned the camera on again it opened and shut when turned off. It has worked fine ever since.
Seems a rather poor design.
Hope this helps. Very best regards Peat.

Action pics with a long lens

What you are experiencing is not blur, its camera shake. You are shooting in low light so the shutter speed is being reduced by the camera's automatic features. Also the longer the lens (the farther you zoom), the higher the shutter speed you need. Even for non moving objects or when panning the shutter speed should be at least one stop above the focal length. ie - 300mm lens = 500 or 1000 shutter AT LEAST! (and don't forget, if its a film lens on your rebel, thats actually 300mm x 1.6 =480mm, so 1000 shutter or higher min.) Moving objects require even faster shutters. Solutions: Get faster (also called brighter) lenses which can be pricey. In low light use higher iso settings in the camera menu. Shoot in either manual or Tv mode and choose the higher shutter speeds while using the light meter to decide aperture. Use wider angle lenses or back off the zoom and move closer. Stabilizers built into the lens can steady the shot by two to four times as well.
