Question about Hamilton Beach Cool Mist 05521 Humidifier

1 Answer

Short cycling After years of dependable service, our humidifier has started an annoying short cycling behaviour. For example, with a setting of 50% and a room humidity of 45%, the unit will gradually raise the humidity to 50% and shut off. Immediately after shut off, the unit's humidity reading will start dropping down and when it hits 48% it turns on again (this only takes a few seconds). At this point it raises the humidity back to 50%, again within seconds, and turns off. This cycle repeats over and over for several minutes until the humidity reading holds at 50%. Any idea what has failed?

When I set the humidifier to any percentage the fan would run for a few seconds then turn off for a few seconds. Then it repeats this cycle for the whole time that it is on.

It doesn't sound like it has failed.

The whole point of the % setting is so that the room holds at that %. When the humidity drops lower than, it will kick in. When it raises to that number it will turn off.

If the on and off is bugging you try raising the percentage. Or lower the temperature of your house. Heating will dry out the air and cause your machine to kick in.

Good Luck.

My Holmes HM630 humidifier doesn't get up to 40% it levels out 33-34%. How do I get it up to 40-50% air humidity level?

, this cool mist tower is ideal for medium rooms. It provides a refreshingly cool, invisible mist, as well as a digital humidistat which offers precise humidity control for your optimal comfort.

I got this off the Sears website so either the room you're trying to make humid is too large, or the humidistat needs to be set properly. Also make sure there is plenty of water in the tank.

Honeywell humidifier short cycles

It's not uncommon for duct work in an older home to Bang as the furnace cycles due to age. The humidifier banging while turning on and of is mostlikely the solenoid valve; if the solenoid is bad it is actually to your benefit to replace the entire humidifier as the solenoids are very expensive, 50%+ of a new humidifier. Plus you get the 5 year parts warranty on the new unit instead of just one year on the solenoid. If you don't want to replace the entire unit you can replace the Humidistat, and that should fix the on/off cycling, however a new humidistat is included with a new unit, which again is more cost effective. They are easy enough to replace as a do it yourselfer, especially when replacing an existing unit. I hope this helps you.

For some reason after 2 uses it has decided to stop pushing the moisture up and the whole unit got very hot including the tank of water?? I have used humidifiers for the last 30 years and thought this...

stop pushing the moisture up? I feel you may have shorted out the unit. ultrasonic humidifiers differ from old humidifiers that relied on a motor and a little rod that sticks in to stir and disperse water droplets. (the old ones were designed to get wet).. Now they are little small vibrating disks and a fan to break down water molecules. the unit is designed to get the moisture into the room. but if it starts to **** the moisture back into it's self from the fan in the bottom. then no good can come. I messed up my first one from not knowing to keep moisture out of the bottom. but a good return policy does wonders! :)

Hi, We just purchased a vicks warm mist humidifier. We used it for two nights in my daughter's bedroom...we then noticed a sticky residue over sections of the wall as well as crackling paint? Is this...

is it possible that you have the mist turned up too high? If the room is very small, the high setting could be providing too much humidity to the room. I'm thinking that the paint crackled as the humidity climbed.

Fill level & digital readout (bemis humidifier)

There is a sticker that comes in the owner's manual that apparently falls out frequently. I was told that the fill level is two inches below the top edge of the reservoir. I am going to mark mine with a Sharpie since stickers have a tendency to fall of when wet.

If you are keeping your humidifier set to 76, this is far too high. A humidifier setting of 40 to 50 percent is about right. Depending on your window insulation, you may have to reduce the setting in very cold weather if you start getting condensation on or around the windows.
Hope this helps.
