Question about Hotpoint 24 in. FDW60 Free-standing Dishwasher
If the washer is not used regularly the shaft can stick to the seals and prevent the motor from spinning. This happens quite regularly for me if you don't use the washer often. You can just take off the bottom panel - after shutting off power to the dishwasher - and access the motor. you should see some fins and then just try to spin the motor by hand. It usually takes about 90 degrees of rotation before the motor breaks free from the seal. You'll have to fight through the spring-like resistance created by the seal-shaft adhesion. After it breaks free the motor spins freely and you should be all set to go.
you will have to verify that there is 120V going to it when the wash motor should be running. If you hear the motor humming and kicking out on the overload, then we can assume you have something stuck in the impeller or the motor is bad itself. Check the float switch inside the tub, it should move freely up and down. This is a safety device to insure the dishwasher does not overfill. there will be a start capacitor on the left side of the wash motor. If one of the wires came off the cap, the motor won't run. Regarding the door switches, if you have 120V going to the motor during the wash cycle, you can assume the door switches are o.k. but in some models there is no start capacitor for motor .in that models motor directly gets controlled by the main control board. in that case control board needs to be checked.
