The remote control is the one which emits infrared, the tv is just an infrared receiver. first of all, check the infrared in your remote control. To see this infrared beam, read the related article at: http://www.unique-stuff.co.cc/fixing_remote_control_check_infrared.html

hope it works for you. good luck

The TV no longer responds to the remote control i know that the problem is the TV not the remote control

Check the remote control for its infrared emission. Check it with fresh batteries. If it is found OK, check and replace the infrared sensor inside the TV. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. It has details about how to check a remote control; by one among the post. Surf the site with patience. Toshiba 32a14 does not respond to remote control

Hello
There is a infrared light sensor inside the TV which detects the infrared rays emitted from the remote control, when we press each button on the remote control. If this sensor has got damaged, the set won't respond to any remote control handset. The sensor can be located just behind the infrared sensor window at the front panel of the TV. To access it, you have to open the TV. It is a three terminal component, will be soldered diretily to front panel circuit board, of with the main baord itslef. Will look somewhat brownish black in colour. There are so many types can be seen . Just look what type if fitted with your TV.

My Sony Bravia doesnt work with remote control, with any remote including universals

You didn't include the Sony Bravia model that you own - so I can't be more specific. If the TV is set up to use RF (radio frequency) codes instead of IR (infrared) codes; the universal types probably will not work. This is because most universal remotes are the IR type.

The remote included with your TV may have inadvertently be switched to send the codes as an IR type while the TV will respond only to RF type codes. It may also be that the TV was changed to respond to RF codes only. Either way, check your manual (or your TV menu settings) to see how to set the TV and the remote to work in the same mode.

If you can't find your manual, reply with your TV's model number - and if possible the remote's model number, too. I'll see what I can find that is specific to your TV.

I hope this helps & good luck. Please rate my reply. Thank you.

The tv will not respond to remote control but will from control panel. Is there an easy fix or is it not worth the repair costs

You have to make sure the problem isn't with the remote. If you can borrow a remote or try to get a universal remote. If it responds at all then the problem was just your remote. that is a cheap annoying problem. If it still won't respond then it is a problem on the mainboard. It can be the infrared receiver or something else. If you can get a repair estimate that will tel you if it is worth fixing. You need to know what a replacement is worth and then add up all the costs for the repair ie shipping, repair bill, taxes etc. Even though the tv remote doesn't work the tv itself should continue to run just fine. You can put it on a cable box and then use the box to control channel and sound. That gets around buying a new tv and saves a few $$.

My Sony Bravia KDL-40D3000 no longer responds to the IR remote. I also have a 46 inch Bravia, and the remote does work with it. The front panel controls work okay. The remote worked for about 2 years, then...

Had the same problem. The infrared receiver quit working. Could not use the factory remote or the cable remote. Simple fix- I just cleaned the infrared receiver. Both remotes now working.

LCD tv is working but the remote control is not responding? why?

Check to see if a universal remote will work. If it will not work with the TV. The infrared receiver to the remote may be dead.

The infrared laser in the remote could also be dead in the remote itself in which case you need to get a universal remote or new one.

LG LCD TV won't respond to remote controllers

sparrow00, your fix worked for me, and I think I know why. The 1/8" remote input jack on the back of the TV has electrical contacts inside that are probably there to sense the presence of a plug-in remote. When they detect the insertion of this plug they disable the front panel IR (infrared) receiver and the TV only responds to this plugged-in remote and the buttons on the TV itself. After some period of time these contacts get corroded and the circuit is no longer completed between them. The TV now thinks an external remote is plugged in, and it ignores its own front panel IR receiver.

When you plug a 1/8" plug into this remote socket on the back of the TV it wipes away the corrosion. When you remove the plug the internal contacts conduct properly again and the TV responds to its front panel IR receiver. For best results you should plug a 1/8" headphone plug into this remote jack and twist it a few times, then pull it out and repeat several times. Repeat every frew months or whenever the TV acts up.
Thanks for your solution!

No response from remote

Remote problem could arise from either tv or remote. First check your universal remote on some other tv and if it is okay your tv's infrared sensor has stopped working. You can get it from the local component shops, take the existing sensor with you. This problem could be from the micro processor in rare cases. Best of luck.

Remote does not work for TV

I assume you had new batteries in the original remote and that the Universal remote was programmed correctly for your TV.

Are there any lights on the old remote that flash when you press a button? If so, does it light?

If the TV doesn't respond to a remote, and the remote is verified to be in working order, then the infrared sensor in the TV is defective amd needs replaced.

Good Luck,
- Jim
