Sharp 27SC260 27" TV Logo
Anonymous Posted on Jan 30, 2010

We were having problems with closed captions on our 27sc260 after the switch-over to digital, so thought re-scanning the digital channels might help. After doing so, we lost a number of our most popular local channels and can't figurre out how to get them back. We used to receive 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 4.1, 5.1, 5.2, 9.1, 9.2, 11.1, 11.2, 23.1, 23.2, 29.1, 29.2, 41.1, 41.2, 41.3, 41.4, and 54.1. After re-scanning we can no longer receive 2.1 through 5.2 and 29.1 and 29.2. Any suggestions?? Dean

After trying to rescan the digital channels oodles of times, I had a crazy idea to abandon the remote and go through the scanning secquence using the buttons on the front of the TV. Worked perfectly the first time through.

Why can't I get closed caption on my 20digital/analog TV on the Hallmark channel when I can get it on other channels on the TV? I followed directions.

Hi Leota. I'm not sure why your digital TV doesn't get closed caption on Hallmark and your analog TV does. Hooking a box to it might help, it won't hurt anything except possibly your wallet, and you might even get a better picture with a box. If you can try the box on the digital TV you should to see if it does help.

I haven't been able to put closed captioning on tv. I don't understand how and what code to use to get the closed captioning to work.

Enable Caption Using the Original Remote
  1. Press the [CCD] button to change the CCD mode.
  2. Using this button will set the Closed Caption mode when viewing a DTV or TV channel.
Enable Caption Using the TV Menu
  1. Open the Menu screen, select the third icon, in the middle, this is the Setup Menu.
  2. In the Setup Menu, choose the Caption option.
  3. Caption: There are three items in it - Analog Closed Caption, Digital Closed Caption and Digital Caption Style
  • Analog Closed Caption: CC1, CC2, CC3, CC4, TEXT1,TEXT2, TEXT3, TEXT4.
  • Digital Closed Caption: Service1, Service2, Service3, Service4, Service5, Service6.
  • Digital Caption Style: There are two Caption Styles. One is the automatic function set as the broadcaster, while the other is the custom style where you can adjust the font size, color, opacity, background color etc., accordingly.

I know this tv has digital capabilities, so i don't need to get the digital box, what do i need to watch my local channels? i have directv but does not include local channels (ie. fox, abc, nbc).

Hello

To tune the local channels do the following.

1 Press the MENU key on the remote control to
display the Main menu.

2 Use the CURSOR "UP" or "Down"
keys to highlight
Manual Channel Search. Press ENTER.

3 Use the CURSOR "Up" or "Down"
keys to select Cable,
Air (Antenna), or Digital Add-On.

After the search is complete, the HDTV will exit the
menu system and return to normal TV viewing.

IMPORTANT FACT: This HDTV maintains only one database

of digital channels. Therefore, when you search for

cable channels, the database of antenna digital channels

will be deleted. You will only be able to receive those
ClearQAM channels your cable company provides.

NOTE:"Not available" will appear on the screen

when an option is unavailable.

TUNING MODE UNAVAILABLE MENU OPTION(S)

Analog RF Digital Caption

Digital RF None (all Menu options available)

Video 1 Manual Channel Search, Channel Scan

Memory, Digital Caption

Video 2/3 and Manual Channel Search, Channel Scan
HDMI 1/2 Memory, Digital Caption, V-Guide

Closed captioning disappeared

Within an hour after I posted this request (6/28/08), I solved the mystery by unplugging the receiver, waited one minute and re-plugged it back in. Closed captioning is back on again.

Sharp 17" TV

It's the Closed Captioning function I think. I've had the problem with my Sharp TV (and other TV's that have Closed Captioning function). Look at the menu or the manual to see how to turn off Closed Captioning. It might be marked as "CC".

Large Black Box Showing up in middle of screen.

When a black box appears on the screen it means that your closed captions are on and set to TEXT. When the closed captions are set to CC1, it puts the words on the screen and when set to TEXT it puts a black box in the center of the screen. Go into the set's menu, navigate to the closed captions page and set the captions to OFF.

Closed Captioning on HD channels

We had the exact same problem just yesterday when we bought our Sony 46" Bravia LCD. Nobody, neither Comcast Cable or Sony seemed to really know how to get rid of the closed caption at first and we did have a Motorola box - the box is the problem, not the tv. Here is step-by-step instructions that worked for us. 1. While TV is on, power DCT (Digital Cable Terminal) off 2. Press and hold "menu" button on digital terminal (the screen below will appear) 3. Using Up/Down cursors, highlight "Close Caption" 4. Using Left/Right cursors, put - Close Caption: Disabled 5. Press "ok-select" 6. When done, press "power" to exit menu 7. Press "power" again to turn DCT on If you go through these steps slowly, you should have a caption-free screen!
