Did you try this monitor with another PC yet and also check the VGA cable?

The monitor goes dark within a few seconds of turning it on. Is this something that can be fixed or do I need to replace?

Try replacing the power cable. (assuming that the monitor has not lights when it turns off) After replacing the power cable if that doesnt work try a different outlet.
If there are lights try seeing if you can replace the data cable from the monitor to the computer. If that doesnt work then you will want to look into getting a replacement.

My monitor has a blue cast over everything!

Check all the pins at both ends of the cable and make sure they are seated properly, also try it with another PC to make sure it is not the PC video card problem.
