Hi, I have an Acer 4720z which I recently restored to factory default settings. Now it asks me for a system password to get on. I forgot to write it down and now nothing works and I get a number 15612 message. The computer is useless now

Hi,

You could Consider Below Options :-

1. http://www.loginrecovery.com/

There is a option of free service, but you will need to wait for 72 hours if you choose to use the free service. Please follow the steps (1-3 on the loginrecovery page) to know the password.

2. You can use a free software PCLoginNow. To use it, you have to :

a. Download ISO files from using a working computer :-

http://sourceforge.net/projects/pcloginnow/files/

b. Burn the ISO file to CD
c. Set the BIOS to boot from CD on the affected computer (press F12 during startup and select the first boot device as CDROM)
d. Insert the CD you burned and reboot your computer (on the affected computer)
e. Use PCLoginNow to reset the password

You can also try the following link for an idea about how to use PCLoginNow

http://www.pcloginnow.com/loginnow_guide.html

3. First, unplug the laptop.Second, remove the battery supply from the laptop.Lastly, we will need to locate and remove the CMOS battery from the mother board.Once this battery is removed, wait about 20 minutes, and replace it. This should clear the BIOS and allow the computer to boot. The tricky part here can be locating the battery. It is the size of a watch battery and may require some pieces of the laptop to be unscrewed in order to access it.Please start by removing the memory cover on the back of the laptop, and remove the memory. Typically it is located in this area.

Let me know, if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

I WOULD LIKE TO RESTORE TO FACTORY SETTINGS TY

You will loose all data you have put on the computer. When you turn it on right at the beginning there is a black screen and there are a few f key options.
They will flash up with the option when you turned it on, before windows kicks in. Take a look at the user manual to find out for sure.
Press the correct f key before windows starts up, then go through the menus in setup (it will look all crappy and dos like) and find restore factory settings (or something like that) and click yes.
It's a great feature, and will completely kill any virus or **** problems you have had and couldn't get rid of.
Hope this helps. I would appreciate your feed back as I do this for fun not pay.

    Hi
Please save any files or photo,s that you may have on your laptop ist

Then you could try this method without using the disks
    Click Start" menu

    Click Programs

    Click Acer Recovery Management

Click the Restore button on the bottom of the dialog box that opens

Click Restore System to Factory Default

Click Yes in the warning dialog box which asks if you wish to continue the recovery process

Click yes Start to restore the computer to the default factory settings

Sometimes there is a default acer password which is quite often 000000 that is 6 zero's

or place the recovery disk into your cd

restart the laptop pressing F12 i believe

    then follow on screen instructions

    many thanks

How to format acer aspire 4720z

If you have the installation or restore CD insert that in the CD drive and restart the computer. That should stop the problem. For some reason Vista systems like to default to asking for an Administrator password when you enter the recovery for systems. This is not normally the same password you use everyday. It is a password you typed in when you installed the system to begin with. The problem is most people have the store they buy the PC at do the initial install so they don't know what it is. You can try contacting the store that did this install or Acer to see if they have an idea of what it is. It maybe a combination of initials or your last name depending on what the store policy is.
