Got my brothers old comp, reloaded windows now wireless wont work

My brother gave me his old Toshiba satellite 5105 s501 laptop, so i reformatted and reloaded windows. everything is working just fine, except for the wireless. It won't recognize my router. I have tried reinstalling the drivers, I have looked in the router settings by logging into it and it seems to me it is all set up and ready to go. We've had the router for a while actually, and multiple computers have connected, even the laptop, before I reinstalled windows. Ideas?

Um, in the wireless network setup it does say add computers to NETGEAR, the ssid. I tried to set it up with a flash drive, but there is no usb port on the router. But yes it is there. I don't know how to set it up to us the same security protocol. And no I can't connect at all, except for a wired connection. In the wireless Network Connection in the bottom right, it says no networks were found, but I'm like three feet from it.

To Pearlljp, I don't believe my brother has any of the original discs. He bought it off a friend a while ago.

Also, the driver is installed and says its working.

Yes, there is one. it is a Netgear wireless-G router
WGR614 V.9. Numerous other computers have connected to already though. we've had it for over a year. even this computer has connected(I'm wired right now), but only before I reformatted.

Are you using internal wireless, usb or pc card?

Can you see the router wireless connection in the wireless network setup section in the control panel folder? If so have you set up the network connection to use the same security protocol? Can you connect to the wireless network, but not get to the internet?

if the router is working for other devices and the built in wireless adapter is installed and switched on, then there will be something you need to change as there is obviously an incompatibility.
You may need to change the channel of the the wireless adapter on your computer to match the router or fiddle with the encryption settings.
Setting up your wireless network may have upset things if you have entered the SSID of your router, as that name would then be assigned to the PC aswell
Remove any network settings you have set and start again
Because it connected before the re-install i would think the encryption settings would be compatible. but login to the router and set up the wireless encryption to wep 64bit and then try.

Did you install a retail version of Windows? You should have used the restore disc that came with the laptop when you purchased it. That will solve driver related problems if your wireless card is okay.
Check Device Manager if wireless card is still there.
If you install a retail version of Windows, check the support website. Check the wireless card's manufacturer and contact that manufacturer so they can give you the driver for the wireless card.
If you install a retail version of Windows, installing the driver from the support website might not work.
If you used the recovery disc that came with the computer, it should work.

If you purchase a new OS disc of your choice, assuming it will work on your laptop, just palace the disc in the drive, boot from the disc and follow the on screen prompts.
Hope that helps.

There are several that will work on that model. You can also get a wireless card that slides in the side that will work as well or better than the internal one.It will probably be cheaper than the internal one too.You can use a USB wifi adapter as well.

How to entrer in setup of toshiba 5105 satellite?

There is no BIOS setup on that (or most for matter) Toshiba laptop. If you need to tell it what drive to boot from hit the F12 key when you see the Toshiba Logo then use the left and right arrow keys to pick what device you want.

Toshiba Satellite 5105-s501 Restarts Windows then shuts down intermittently

Yes it could be, the notorius GeForce2Go is a replaceable card on that model. I have seen, lines, blurry text, and Boot loop issue caused by it. Be warned, the replacement card is expensive.

Cheaper & better finding a complete laptop with busted screen.
and removing the card only. Then you will also have other spare parts.
