Screen freezes I have a HP pavilion zd8000 laptop recently i had problems with windows crashing (turning off laptop) so i took it to a repair shop they replaces a memory slot fixed a video chip replaced a fan and fixed a usb port. When i got the comp back it seemed to work fine but i was wrong now it freezes while doing normal things (surfing the internet or reinstalling softwear). So i called the repair shop, and told them whats going on and they said bring it back in he booted the pc from a disk and said that it worked fine so its not the harddrive he said it could be the motherbaord but that would be another 150 bucks (should i trust him? i dont know, he said it was fixed when it wasent lol). Finally i got my money back, before i sell it for parts I decited to reformat windows and reinstall all the drivers and programs everything was working fine until about 15 mintues the screen froze while surfing the net the pc was still on and the fans were running but the screen was froze any ideas?

Are you installed the some kind of software before freeze?, i mean, when you use it, you install the another application. if you do, then perhaps that application caused the problem. if not, then the problem is in the hardware driver. freeze problem mostly caused by unstable driver or software. make sure driver or software that you are installed into your operating system is stable or compatible.

yes, for example. a few months ago, i have the case with hp laptop. the laptop cannot hibernate correctly. each time hibernate then the wireless won't start. the problem repeat again and again. i installed the new version driver of wireless device driver from the hp website. after that, the problem not appears anymore. it fixed. so i suggest you download the latest driver and install. just download and install. that's it.

I have an hp pavilion zd8000 when i turn on my laptop the bootmenu will come on then the screen will go blank right befor windows start loading. what do i need to do to fix this problem?

Your ROM BIOS is asking you where to find bootable media, and when you tell it the HDD (hard disk dive), the ROM BIOS can't find a bootable partition on it and just quits, leaving the screen blank.

So, either your HDD is no longer connected to the system bus (was the laptop dropped recently?), or
someone (or something - aka virus/worm/trojan/malware/rootkit, etc.) has erased your bootable
OS (operating system) from the hard drive.

Fix: boot from a "Recovery CD" and use the utilities thereon to repair your OS (or at least find what's left of it), and try to reboot.
Failing that, run any/all diagnostics that your ROM BIOS has - especially memory tests and HDD diagnostics. Why?
(a) bad/jarred loose memory (RAM cards) will prevent booting
(b) an HDD that fails low-level diagnostics may never be salvageable and may have to be replaced -
it actually may have had a head crash - which tends to happen when a ZD8000 notebook is
dropped while the system is running - or a head can crash for no apparent reason.

If you can get the system to boot to SAFE mode - run sfc (system file check) as your first attempt
to repair the operating system - its already in Widows, here's how to run it:

START > run > sfc

As soon as you can get beyond safe mode, update your favorite anti-virus package database and
run one (or more ) deep scans, until the last scan that ran to completion found nothing.

Vertical lines have appeared on my hp pavilion zd8000 can u tell me how to fix it please?

Connect an external monitor to your laptop. If the problem appears only on the display of the laptop and not on the external monitor in the same time that means the video card is ok and the problem could be : the screen of the laptop or the invertor or the cable that attaches the screen to the mptherboard. If the problem appears on both screens, external and laptop, most probably the video card/motherboard is defective.
Have it checked/repaired by a professional.

Same problem with my zd8000 HP Pavilion laptop

what has happened with your notebook is a simple wear factor. on the LCD screen there are ribbon cables witch join the main PCB controller head to the LCD laminated portion (what you see) have begun to wear. i have just recently replaced a screen because of the same issue. try gently flexing the the screen and see if the lines dissappear. next open the screen up, and check the cable running to the back of the screen take care as to not damage anything.

HP pavilion laptop will not boot windows...IDE device not found

You usually get that message when the hard drive has crashed.

Try removing the hard drive from the unit, then reseat it back into place.

Hopefully it was just dislodged a little bit.

Let me know what happens.

Hi,
a power surge could have caused this problem, as you so rightly assumed. motherboards-cpus et,c. are prone to fail or malfunction. even with static electricity.
it could also be a sign that, the tft ( screen ) has faults or the cfl (tube) or inverter have suffered damage.
