Series 2000 Frigidaire dishwasher Model #GLD2350RCQ1 does not get top shelf dishes clean. My husband is trying to check on the inlet valve but is not sure where it is or what screws to unscrew.

  • louckscs Jan 30, 2010

can you tell me how to check the pump? we've thoroughly checked the spray wand.

  • louckscs Jan 30, 2010

Well, if he gets to the pump, how does he tell if it's working?

  • louckscs Jan 30, 2010

forget about the pump. We ran the dishwasher and after the water ran in, checked and the floater was not raised and the water was only a little above the bottom of it. The floater is not stuck, because I can raise it easily but apparently we are not getting enough water in. What should be our next step?

Thank you for your help. We will dig further into the dishwasher.

It is more likely to be the washer water pump or blocked spray nozzels. Generally once the water is taken in to the washer to fill the reservior up it does not take any more water in.

I am not completely familiar with this particular model, but the pump is generally mounted under the diswasher, you should be able to access it from the front of the machine, you may have to remove a front panel below the water resorvior. Also check to see if the overfill detector is not jammed in the up position. Open the door when the water intake sound stops and see if the water level is correct. Hope this helps

  • Kiri Amarakoon Jan 30, 2010

OK, Guess you have thought of most things.

Looks like you were right about the water supply rate. I downloaded the user manul for the 2000 series and it says the water presure has to be 20 to 120 PSI, I will assume that you have atleast 20 PSI. The water supply is timed based on your cycle selection. To confirm that it is the water supply problem, you could try a couple of things, select the "Ultimate Scrub " cycle which takes on 10 gallons compared 7.5 gallons for anormal wash, or fill the base of the washer manually and see if it washes properly.

Once you have confirmed it is the water supply, unfortunately you do have to get to the supply hose. To do that you may have to pull the machine forward, the strainer is at the water inlet connector on the right hand side as shown on the installation instructions. Good luck.

  • Kiri Amarakoon Jan 31, 2010

I forgot to mention, you can download the installations instructions from the website below and it shows you where the water inlet is. Or you can search for your particular model for installation instructions. Good luck

Hello

Water Inlet Valve

A dishwasher's water inlet valve is its most common part to fail. When your dishes are not being fully cleaned, quite often a faulty water inlet valve is to blame. Test your dishwasher's water inlet valve, and if it is no longer functioning as it should, you will have to replace it.

Upper or Lower Spray Arm

Your dishwasher has a lower spray arm. It may also have an upper spray arm at the top of the dishwasher. These spray arms are designed to shoot high pressure, high temperature water at your dishes. It is possible that the holes of the spray arms, where the water comes out, are blocked with debris, affecting wash quality. You should inspect your dishwasher's spray arms regularly. Clean out the spray arms as need be.

Heating Element

Water temperature is a key element in achieving clean dishes. A dishwasher's heating element is not designed to heat the water that enters it. Rather, the heating element is designed to maintain the heat of the water that enters the dishwasher. Its a good idea to run the hot water in your sink for a couple of minutes before you run the dishwasher. Just to make sure the water is nice and hot before it enters the dishwasher. If the water is unable to stay hot, it can adversely affect your dishwasher's cleaning ability.

Filter/Drain Grate

There is a filter in your dishwasher. Its function is to keep large particles of food and foreign objects away from the pump. Many of the newly-manufactured dishwashers have self-cleaning filters, and routine cleaning isn't a concern. However, some other dishw ashers need to have the filter removed and cleaned regularly. If the filter or grate is clogged or blocked with debris, it may interfere with the normal functioning of your dishwasher. Consult your owner's manual for specific directions for removing your dishwasher's filter and cleaning it.

Detergent or Detergent Cup

It could just be that you aren't using enough soap to completely wash your dishes. Your dishwasher may be designed to dispense soap at two different times during the wash cycle. If you don't fill all of the detergent cups, then the diswasher will lose a cleaning cycle. Also, if you use a gel-type detergent, try switching to a powered kind. Powders tend to dissolve better in hot water. And don't buy in bulk. Detergents are most effective in the first two weeks. After that, they decrease in potency.

Alternatively, your dishwasher's detergent cup could be defective in some way. It is possible that it is gunked up full of built up detergent, and a thorough cleaning may be enough to get it working again. If that doesn't do the trick, you probably need to replace the entire detergent cup assembly. If your cup isn't even opening, please see our section My dishwasher detergent cup won't open.

First I would check to see if it is getting enough water. There is a screen in the water inlet valve that tends to pick up debris. Follow the links Dishwasher not cleaning starting with the video on the water inlet valve.

My dishwasher was working fine until yesterday, now it doesn't seem to use all the soap, I tried 2 times and there was still soap left over.

Hello there:
It doesn't get the dishes clean dot_lineone.gif 1. No water
Make sure you get water to the dishwasher. Check to see if the watershut-off valve (located under the sink) is open. If you get water tothe dishwasher, but there is still no water inside during the fillcycle, the problem might be with a faulty water valve (located at thebottom of the dishwasher, behind the kick panel, on either side), inwhich case replace the water valve. There are also screens and filters that need to be cleaned to ensure proper operation so please check these as well

2. Not enough water
If there is not enough water, the dishes would not get cleaned. Thiscould be caused by a partially closed water shut-off valve (locatedunder the sink), or a faulty dishwasher water valve (located at thebottom of the dishwasher, behind the kick panel, on either side).

3. Clogged spay arms
There is usually two, sometimes three spray arms in a dishwasher. Makesure there is no debris blocking the holes inside each spray arm. thee are also screens and filters under these arms that may need toi be cleaned

4. Water temperature is too low
To get the best results, the water has to be at 120 degrees Fahrenheit when entering the dishwasher.if not increase the hot water heater temp

5. . Smoky film on dishes and glasses
This problem occurs due to excessive calcium build up inside thedishwasher. Try cleaning you dishwasher using a dishwasher cleaner. There are a few out there, we recommend Dishwasher Magic®.

GE Quiet Wash 3, top arm does not spin

It sounds like you don't have enough water. Your water inlet valve may be not letting in enough water or the plastic pump inlet screen located on the bottom of your dishwasher had something blocking it.
  1. Check to see if there is something blocking the plastic screen on the bottom of your dishwasher.
  2. When your dishwasher is in the final cycle add a pot of hot water to the dishwasher and see if your dishes come out cleaner.
If the dishes come out cleaner you may need a new water inlet valve.

I have a kenmore elite and none of my dishes are coming out clean

Well, if the motor is moving, try adding a half gallon of /hot/ water before you start the cycle (just pour a saucepan full directly into the dishwasher). If that sounds like it is doing a lot more "blasting" than it was before- you probably need a new water inlet valve, or perhaps to take your water inlet valve off and try to clean out the screen. Problem being, you arent getting enough water into the washer before it starts washing.

It is located at the front of the machine behind the panel under the door.. but as a check, make sure that the valve under the sink that sends water to the dishwasher is all the way open, as this can cause the same problem.

If you do decide to remove the valve, be sure to cut the power at the breaker, or unplug the dishwasher, and turn off the water valve under the sink.

Dishes not coming out clean

Most cleaning problems are caused by the dishwasher not getting enough wash water, so the water-inlet valve is often to blame. This valve is usually at the bottom left or right of the dishwasher, behind the lower access panel. It's the device with the main water line from the house, a rubber tube to the dishwasher, and two wires attached to it.

When a water-inlet valve is defective, you may hear the sound that's usually referred to as "water hammer." If the water-inlet valve is defective, you need to completely replace it.
