Question about Samsung RF265AA Bottom Freezer French Door Refrigerator

1 Answer

After 14 months and 3 refrigerators, I'm giving up. The RF265 and RF263 series refrigerators make loud popping sounds. I've been through two RF265s and one RF263, and they all make the same noise. The popping sounds are random, and wake the family in the middle of the night. Now my RF263 makes squeaks and cricket sounds. I've given up on Samsung refrigerators.

I have had what sounds like the same problem for over a year with my Samsung RF263 refrig. It makes very loud popping noises like expansion noises when heat hits your house siding or a railroad track. The noises are loud enough that they actually startle people, and our cat. I had a repair man in last May 2013 but no luck.

I finally did a lot of listening, testing, etc. and found the problem. I noticed it would occur whenever the compressor came on. I thought it might be ice build up, so I took the cover plate off over the evaporator in the back of the refrig compartment. There was no ice build up. I then left the cover off and wiring attached and no noise after a day. After a few other trials I added some more weather stripping to increase the distance between the evaporator coils and the cover plate and that help quite a bit but not totally. I still get a pop now and then. Another problem I noticed with this partial solution is that it causes the shelving to not be aligned. A 'V' gap forms between the shelves and they droop a little. I'm still trying to figure out how to fix this but haven't had any good ideas yet.

This is a very annoying problem and a design flaw in my opinion. Whether Samsung has a solution for it I don't know but I plan on checking before my warranty runs out.

There was no ice buildup. I did try leaving it unplugged for a day before I tried taking off the cover but that had no effect.

It is definitely something to do with the cover being too close to the evaporator. There could be something wrong with the evaporator but I don't know how to determine that. The sound only occurs shortly after the compressor starts running.

I've checked all the other suggested solutions, ice maker, etc. and the noise definitely is not associated with any of those.

It is a design flaw as far as the noise. The payback is dual cool system technology with a separate fan unit in the freezer compartment. I have the same noises and we're just used to it and looking forward to our next refer unit, NOT a samsung.

Agree with the design flaw. Dual cool evaporator system increases the noises, albeit, performance of the unit. I am not impressed with this refer unit and we're just biding our time until we can replace it. Such a shame to talk that way about an $1800 fridge but truth is truth.

SOURCE: RF263 series Samsung Refrigerator just began

The sound comes when there is ice build up around the fan and the fan will hit it causing this sound. You can try to leave it unplugged for around 4-24hrs and also make sure that the area near the back is clear so that airflow can get through. If the issue returns then replace the thermostat. Hope this helps...please post back for further assistance.

Popping sound from refrigerator

Could it be the icemaker??? Try and determine where the sounds are. Sometimes refrigs do make a popping sound when the freon is being metered at the evap. The coils being very dirty could possibly not be letting the hot vapor freon from being totally condensed into liquid at the metering device. This liquid/vapor mix could be the popping you describe. Let me know what you find and ill be glad to help.

Myryad ma120 power amp, loud pop when switched off

Sounds like a Electrolytic capacitor has failed. Search backwards from the speaker connections inside the unit to the main PC board. Replace the first ones that you come accross that are linked with the speakers.

The filter camber on top pops and the air stops coming thru the whole vacuum cleaner. checked filter and washed said filter. Still happens. It is a loud pop and the air noice is loud. It pops when I pull...

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC15. From what you've described, it sounds as if the relief valve is activating - if you've already washed the filter, it may be activating due to a blockage in the machine. The easiest way to locate and remove any blockages is to follow the steps shown in our online support guide:

Although I note you've already washed the filter, you may want to take a look at the video below to make sure you've cleaned it as recommended. In normal use, this should be done at least once every 3-6 months. Use cold water without detergent, and allow at least 12 hours for the filter to dry completely before replacing it.

This should resolve the issue, but if you'd like any further assistance or advice, please call our Helpline free on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US).

Best wishes,

Samsung rf265 series refridge is making a loud humming noise--only 1 year old

It is a well known defect.
the ice is builing up until it interferes with the fan.
The samsung people will not help you. You are screwed.
A&E appliance repair(Sears) told us to take all the food out and leave the doors open for 24 hours.
This happens at least once a month.
We cannot ever buy a fridge from Samsung again or from Lowes.
They ****** us hard. Good luck

We changed the filter on the icemaker but tye light is still on asking for a filter. now what makes the light go out?

The light stays on, actually. RF265/6/7 models have a blue LED water filter indicator that remains lit in normal mode. After about 5 months [on a 300 gal. filter] the LED indicator will turn pink and then red at about 6 months. Derived from RF266 users manual, hope this helps.

Dear Customer

Please perform the following

If it's cooling ok, they're probably normal sounds. Modern refrigerators can make many noises, most people aren't home long enough to hear them. A popping sound could be defrost water hitting a hot defrost element, or refrigerant making noise in the cooling lines. If it's working ok, ignore it. Please rate this,Thank u

Kenmore Refrigerator making loud sounds at shutdown

the compressor has a loose or broken spring inside the compressor, unfortunatly it can not be repaired without replacing the compressor, it could last many more years and it could quit as we speak.

best thing is to let the neighbor know of the problem and what is the repair that way they won't think you are ponning off the machine to them, it may outlast your new one, time will tell
