If your bike has magnetic resistance and you changed the batteries this should make your tension work properly. Since it did not I believe that there are magnets somewhere on your bike that are wearing out. Or it could be a computer part. Your manual should tell what part you need to order and replace. I hope this information has been helpful.
Also make sure the batteries that you put in your bike are really new ones. Sometimes you can purchase new batteries at a store and they are actually a little weak. I had this problem with an elyptical trainer and I went and got other batteries and this fixed the problem.

I own this particular Old Fashioned bike -lol - its a hardy one thou and I dont think you can find the original book but the book that came with it came from the company Roadmaster Corp. which is now named Roadmaster Industries, Inc - 250 Spring Street NW - Atlanta, Georgia 30303 -- phone number -- (404) 586-9000. I hope this helps ya. My resource came from the website that tells all about the cpy.
So good luck in finding your manual. I am pretty sure that they can help after all they made this bike originally in 1992,
