Try going into the BIOS and into the advanced settings menu. From there look for the onboard devices menu then the promise controller and then set it to disable. Then save settings and exit. try re-booting and let me know if that fixes your problem.

I see that you just posted another question. So disabling the promise controller has caused another error. When you installed the video card did you disconnect any hard drive cables? If you did you may have left one loose or installed it back on the wrong connector it might be what has cause the original Fastrack controller error message.

Based on what you have presented...
1 long 2 short - (Video Controller Failure or faulty add-on card

Do you have an installed video card? Does the unit have a built in Card? (In other words part of the mother board?)

If you have an installed card check that it is not loose... If it is still not functioning (and)

If your unit also has a built in video card that is disabled... go to the BIOS and enable it... see if your unit will boot up...

If the video card is not loose and you do not have a built in card... you may want to see if you know someone with an extra card to loan... or purchase a new one....

I have toshiba satellite L505-S5990 model.i have installed windows xp by changing the settings in Bios that is sata hard disk enabled as compatable mode from AHCI.if i change to AHCI i can't install...

If you would like to make use of the SATA controller's AHCI features, you should enable this BIOS feature. But please note that enabling this feature requires you to load the SATA controller driver during the Windows XP installation routine.
If you do not intend to use the AHCI features, it's recommended that you disable this BIOS feature. This allows you to use the native Windows XP driver. You won't need to load the SATA controller driver during the Windows XP installation routine.

Ibm xseries 235 eserver....all of a sudden stopped booting...it was set up through a kvm swtich, the kvm detects a signal and lights up the apprpriate port, yet nothing is displayed on the monitor....

Please expalin how you know "drives are good" (sic) As it would appear to me that this is indeed your problem? Unless as you say the video card has turned up it's toes. As you said the best way to check that is to enable the onboard Video and check, exactly what happens when you do that? Yes it will automatically use the video, it would install a generic video driver, and show video, are you sure the monitor is OK,have you swapped it out? Simply removing the Video card will automatically enable the onboard video, so you won't need to get inro BIOS. Check the RAM too, and remove any other cards in it.

Boot from non Dell raid controller

Check the Boot Sequence again -- if there are any "SCSI" devices listed, enable them, and make your CD-ROM the "primary" boot-device (so that you can install Windows) and make this "SCSI" device the SECONDARY boot-device, and disable the internal hard-drive, so that it won't be used as a boot-device.

On the hard drive manufacturer site you should find utility which will "cheat" your laptop bios and control the hard drive bypassing the bios.
