It is possibility the tv's backlight or inverter board has failed. But the main problem could be blown caps on the power board.

To check for blown capacitors first unplug the set from the mains, and remove the back cover, there should be a few screws holding it together, once undone gently prise off the the back cover, Your looking for for the capacitors, they are barrel shaped componants with a silver top, check for any brown liquid readues on the board or the capacitors, if there are any they will need to be replaced, also look for any domed or pretruding tops they should be flat, if there are any they will need to replaced also.

To replace the caps you need soldering skills to desolder the faulty caps and resolder the new ones, ensure you get the correct value capacitors or they will blow again, on the side of the caps it should tell you there value i.e.16v 4.7uf "V" stands for voltage and "uf" stands for micro farrads, unsure that you get the correct value in micro farrads if you dont it wont work, the voltage is not as critical aslong as it is equal to or more than the stated voltage on the cap, more is somtimes better because it has more leway so if a cap is valued at 16v and you cant find one and you buy a 25v with the uf rating the same the less chance it will blow, if you buy a cap with a less rated voltage it will blow sraight away. Also make sure the polarity is right they will be on one side of the cap a couple of "-" minus signs to let you know which way around they go if you get it wrong the cap will blow, take a note of which way around they go before you desolder the old caps.

Hope this is some help.

Sounds much like a faulty switching power supply that is cycling. Most of these problems are caused by failing capacitors that must be replaced. The parts are cheap, even if better than original are used, labor is dependent on your area but will be much higher than the parts cost.

I have a shap lcd computer monitor and when i plug it into my computer and turn the power on, the little green power light comes on, screens back. and after 5-10 seconds the light turns orange and blinks...

It could be your monitor is fine. It simply goes to a cycle when its turned on and does not detect any signal coming from your CPU, it simply goes on standby mode (hence the darker image and orange/blinking light.) have you checked the computer (CPU) part?

Monitor goes blank after 5-10 minutes

You may have a compatibility issue with your monitor. You computer may not be putting out enough power to support your monitor. Check your users manual on your monitor for output requirements. If the monitor's manual has a number to call, call the manufacturer to see if there are any compatibility problems between your computer and your monitor and calling the people who built your computer as well. Get as many scenarios as you can to find a solution. Hoped this helped.

Can't find video signal

If screen says "Signal cable not connected " all the time till power led switches to Amber chances are monitor is ok and problem is with graphic card or cpu.Connect to Known working CPU and confirm that monitor is the problem.
If same problem persists on another working cpu after changing signal cable, the interface board in the monitor could be defective.
