Question about Air Tools & Compressors

1 Answer

To Whom it may concern, I got given a Porter Cable air Compressor Model C6110. The motor runs but the tank will not fill. The gauge on the Regulator just flickers. I have checked the valves and they seem to be intact. Do they wear out and not physicaly break? I was just looking for breaks in them. The piston moves freely but has no resistance, but because it is oil free that is probably how it's supposed to be. Their is a valve at the bottom of the tank that seemed to be leaking but when I tightened it and I think it stopped but I am unsure. their is also a leak where the regulator is but it has no body QC attached to it. can you assist me.

The valves do both they wear out and they break alot on those models.
By the time you buy the repairs parts and put the time into it, you could have bought a new compressor.

My Porter Cable pancake outlet regulator doesn't seem to work.

If your quick coupler is not jammed up, (remove & test) and assuming you are pulling the regulator knob out to adjust the pressure and it is not stripped, you will need a new manifold kit.
There are about 6 versions of this unit so you will need model and type to get the correct part. There are no individual regulator parts available for this unit.

Brand new, just bought it. Actually had to take it back and exchange; this one is doing the same thing. The gauges to do not go past zero. Would adjust regulator, but still nothing. What is going on?

Is the tank actually filling up with air? Have you checked the drain valve on the bottom of the tank and made sure it is tight. Porter Cable may ship these with the drain valve open because part of their break in procedure is to run the unit for 15 minutes with the drain valve open. This procedure can be found around page 12 of your owners manual. Weather or not the drain valve is open I would run though this break in procedure and see if the gauges start working. If still no luck with the gauges it can be other issues like The gauge supplier sent PC a batch of faulty gauges and because you bought your units back to back they both came off the same run. Before going back to the retailer and risking a 3rd set of bad gauges I would contact a local DeWalt/Porter-Cable Factory Service Center, they can be located at www.dewaltservicenet.com and see if they have a resolution or can ship you new gauges.

I SEEM TO BE HAVING A PROBLEM WITH MY TANK PRESSURE. MY TANK PRESSURE SITS AT ABOUT 80 PSI AND THE REGULATED PRESSURE SITS AT ABOUT 70 PSI,IT DOES NOT GO ANY HIGHER, IS THIS NORMAL AND IF NOT WHAT DO I...

The C6110 is an oil free air compressor and has a piston ring that needs to be replace as part of regular service.
When the piston ring is worn out it will just keep pumping but it will not go over 80 psi or so because to much ir is passing by the ring.

Here is a parts diagram:
http://shoppingcart.msservicecompany.com/msservice_net/product_files/C6110/C6110_PL.pdf

It sounds like the piston ring DAC-308 needs to be replaced. You can also replace the complete top end.
This is a pretty easy repair and can be done in less that 1 hour.

I have porter cable vertical c6110 compressor bought 16dec2009 two weeks later cover for motor housing broke off on its own tech at store told me he has had three similar reports ...is this a common defect...

If the tech at one location has already had three failures of this type, there must be a design or application concern. Get the consumer helpline for delta/porter cable from the store where you bought this and let them know it is a defective product, and you would like to have it updated to a more usable design. They will listen, and may give you another unit outright.

Extra fitting on my Porter Cable?

CANT FIGURE OUT WHAT YOU HAVE. IF ITS ON THE REGULATOR - THE REGULATOR USUALLY HAS AN INLET, OUTLET, GAUGE PORT AND A PLUG IN THE OTHER SIDE IN CASE YOU NEED TO MOVE THE GAUGE. SOME MANUFACTURERS PUT SAFETY VALVES IN THIS PLUG PORT. IF THIS DOESNT FIX IT GIVE A LITTLE MORE DETAIL. IS THERE ANYTHING WRITTEN ON IT. HOPE THIS HELPS, JODY
