Question about Canon PowerShot A540 Digital Camera

1 Answer

All the actions expect taking photos, are "jammed", nothing works. Also, when u turn the camera on, the zoom will go to its most extended position and won't return back.

The internal zoom switch is stuck in the extend position. Don't normally recommend opening the case, but in this case (pun intended) it's necessary. You'll only need to disassemble the camera enough to remove its front face. Please see this link. Only go as far as the 10th picture where the front face is removed, and as mentioned in the article, inspect that little copper plate to see if it's bent. Also read this concerning safety as there is a possibility of electrical shock.

How do I zoom in the camera when taking a photo

Generally speaking, unless you are attempting some sort of special effect, you zoom in before taking the photo. If you mean how do you operate the zoom control to achieve this, I would expect this to be covered in the manual.

Sounds like the zoom switch is broken. Repair is possible, but is best left to a professional technician. Check with your local service centers.

I accidentally pushed my lens in while taking a picture so now when the camera thinks it at no zoom it has a 24 zoom (number on lens) How do I fix?

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

This problem does occur. As a first course of action I strongly suggest that you remove the battery of the camera and turn the switch on for 10secs. while the battery is removed. After 10secs. insert the battery then turn the camera on. This should reset the system and may get your camera back to it's normal operation.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

I focused my camera during a photo shot, and now it will not move forward or backward. I get "Zoom Error" message and cannot use any other photo function on my camera either.

It sounds as if there is some dirt jamming the lens zoom or that the lens has been damaged by a knock while it is has been extended. It may be that you have to take it to a camera doctor...

Camera problem

I have a Lumix DMC-TZ1 and my camera is having simular problems. The camera turns on but the buttons don't work. I can not zoom or take pictures. I can turn the auto stabilizing on and can change photo modes by turning the nob. But the menu button, nav buttons are not doing anything. The screen goes on and everything. I have tried removing the battery and nothing happens.

It looks like a problem with the zooming mechanism (lens would not retract or extended) Press the power button on and hold it down while extending and twisting the telescopic zoom lens. It might fix your problem. In any case it could not make it worse

A500 Zoom Error

Your lens assembly has become jammed due to impact or contamination. You can try GENTLY manipulating the extended lens using slight side to side pressure and twisting motions back and forth. Sometimes this will free a component which has jammed out of alignment. Be VERY careful you can easily damage the lens further if you do not use extreme caution. If this method is going to work it will take minimal force to free the components. If this does not work you will need to find a service center to take the camera apart and re-set the internal components in the proper alignment. David Millier Advance Camera Repair

Zoom malfunctioning

This sounds like there is debris lodged in the zoom gears. Been to the beach lately? The gears in the zoom mechanism are very small, and even a tiny spec of sand or other debris can jam them up. Alternatively the sensor inside the lens that feeds back the position of the lens to the control circuit may be failing - so the camera thinks the lens has retracted all the way and stops. If the stoppage of the zoom action is abrupt then it is probably debris, if it is a smooth stoppage like the camera is stopping on purpose it is probably a position sensor. Either way the camera will require repair. David Millier Advance Camera Repair

Lens on Casio EX-S100 Won't Zoom

(EX-S100) You need a new lens assembly. I know this from experiece because I have the same camera and it tried to extend while in its case as well. I found that there are plastic gears that extend this lens assembly and that they are basically destroyed when the lens assembly is not allowed to extend on power-up. I have searched for a replacement part with little success. I found one repair shop that would ship me the part for more than the original cost of the camera. Good Luck!
