Question about FrancisFrancis! X1 - Stainless Steel Espresso Machine

1 Answer

Our Francis and Francis X1 has just started to trip the breaker circuit in our house. It has been fine for 3 years! I have opened the machine and can see no signs of water leak and all the connections seem intact. Any ideas. Tony

Hi That is an indication that you have a ruptured heating element. Just need to replace the old one with a new one.

X2 francis francis trips breaker when plugged in?

Hi
Tripping the breaker is usually a bad heating element. You have to check each heating element to determine which element is bad (2 on and X2). Use an ohms meter and check the 2 elements on each boiler for a reading of between 12 and 16 ohms. If no reading that is the bad element. Its in an aluminum boiler so lubricate the end of the bolts(threads) before you try to remove them or they might break.

Hi
There are 4 nuts that hold the chrome head on. They are either 7mm or 8mm nuts. Loosen then and the head should twist out.

Francis Francis 2004 build. Shut circuit breaker of house. Then, Machine turned on fine, pumped fine, but does not heat up. Looked inside, no odor of short? What is wrong?

Hi
You probably have a blown heating element. You can check it with an ohms meter. If you get no reading across the terminals, its blown and needs to be replaced.

Francis Francis..why do you turn off the power???

Generally in the case that a FF machine is tripping the GFI it is because the heating element within the boiler is coming in direct contact with the water. By this I mean that the coating on the element has deteriorated or the element itself split apart. This is usually do to a lack of cleaning or descaling. It is the machines defense to trip the breaker to avoid any further issues. As far as I know there is no way to repair this problem except sending it in to a repair center.

Hope this helps

Appliances that cycle power, fridges, freezers, espresso machines...tend to trip GFCI outlets. Not a problem with the machine.

Francis Francis! x1 leaking

Well, to state the obvious, you should call Francis! Francis! at 1-877-854-4141 and ship it to them for repair. It's unlikely you can perform a fix yourself. Have you tried opening the machine up? I got PDFs of diagrams and part lists, which I obtained by calling them at the number quoted above. Good luck! Stephen
