Hi there I am missing the quick release from my 2o year old old Hahnel VT220 tripod. Can anyone help? I tried my local Irish Hahnel camera shop but they say the model is too old. The tripod is perfect otherwise. Thanks! Des

Hi I'm looking for a quick release lever and plate for my cullmann alpha 2500 tripod Part NumberCU 52125.I've been looking for it for months. Please of anyone can help me.I'll really appreciate it!!

You could try your local friendly camera store, but I expect you've already thought of that. You may be lucky on Ebay, but failing that you may need to purchase a complete new pan and tilt head. On most tripods they attach with a 1/4" screw, so they are fairly universal. There are a few listed here :

My tripod is actually cx640 did not see it on the list, missing thing camera screws into.

Try this site: http://www.tripodquickrelease.com/Velbon_Quick_Releases.htm#Old%20Velbon%20Reference

Based on your Tripod CX-640 the quick release you need is Velbon QB-5LC. The website gives you pictures to verify.

Try www.TripodQuickRelease.com for that part. There is listed the widest selection of quick releases and support more brands than any other web site I've seen.

How to put a camera on it

If it's a quick release tripod you need to remove the quick release plate (Usually a release lever to the side of the top of the tripod) and then fasten the plate securely to the camera and then the plate to the tripod. Older non-quick-release tripods have a knurled screw located below the flat area where the camera is attached. If the screw is missing, get a relacement from your local hardware store - 1/4" -20. (Find a way to keep the new one from getting lost.)

I bought a used camera tripod that does not fit my camera

Your tripod is a K-Mart brand item and it will fit any camera but it's clearly missing the quick-release foot which most tripods have these days. This part screws to the bottom of the camera and enables the camera to be quickly attached and removed from the tripod.

Unfortunately there is no standard foot shared between manufacturers and most tripod manufacturers don't even have a standard design foot which fits all models in their range.

You can still order a replacement foot from:-

http://tripodquickrelease.com/Focal_Quick_Releases.htm

But at US$18.99 it may be cheaper to buy a new tripod!

I hope that you appreciate the time which I've taken to research and answer your question and ask only that you return the favour by rating my answer.

Missing Tripod piece (Quick release)

What you can do is find a local welder or metal shop in your area. Take the tripod with you, and ask them to fabricate a aluminum or steel replacement "shoe" for your tripod. Also have them drill a hole in the center so you can later insert the proper threaded screw that will mount to your camera. You may want to take your camera and get the proper threaded bolt first before you get the shoe made, so they can make the hole the correct size. You can go to any hardware or home improvement store and ask for assistance to find the right thread for you camera equipment. The bolt should not be any longer than1 inch, so it will mount tight on your plate.

** Note you want a flush mount type bolt that when tightened on the plate is smooth on the bottom** This is so when you mount the shoe in the head, it will be properly seated.
