How to change add RAM to Acer Aspire

I have an Acer Aspire 5520 with a GB of Ram. I want to add either 1 or 2 GB to it.
I was told Acers are fussy about the brand of Ram? It is so?

How do you change the Ram? I assemble desktops, but never opened a laptop.
There are 3 or 4 components/doors on the back, which one shall i open?
thanks

    Thanks all
I got the courage to open the plastic
The freaking thing is so fragile!
And I hate opening remotes and phones as I usually break them!
Anyhow I noted that there are only 2 slots, so I will need two 1GB.
I can manage the rest, thanks all.

First check with www.acer.com to see that expansion is possible.

all computers like their memory upgrades in sets, instead of singles(like changing both front tires on your car or truck)..so compatibility among the two is more vital than matching to existing ram cards.

How do yo get to the memory and can I add 1GB to the existing1!GB or do I have to purchase a 2 GB memory...thanks

Most laptops have 2 memory slots, if you have 1 Gb of RAM using two 512 Mb RAM then you need to replace them with two 1 Gb RAM modules. If you have one RAM module 1 Gb then you only need to add another 1 Gb RAM module. Try to use the same make and speed RAM.

Can i change 1 gb ram to 4 gb ram of tablet pc

Unfortunately the maximum amount of memory that the Acer Aspire One can have is 1/5Gb of ram. This can only be achieved by fitting 1 x 512Mb ram and 1 x 1Gb of ram.

You can put more memory in but it simply wont recognise it.

I hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa

Yes, you can upgrade it to 1 GB RAM.But I recomend you to change it to 2 GB RAM (two 1 GB RAM).It will boost your performance tremendously.

Consider1 GB RAM with 600/666 Mhz.

Can't upgrade an Acer Aspire 3000 notebook to 2 gb

Thanks for choosing fixya.com

Your not alone in this type of problem. When it comes to computer (laptop especially) they usually have a "Max allowed ram" most times its listed in the back of the manual in small print. Its a way to keep people buying new computers (if your into the conspiracy theories)
Chances are even a bios upgrade would not fix your problem. Mostly BIOS upgrades add support for new boot options, plug and play support, and fixes to bugs in older versions.

You can check aspires/acers website for updates www.acer.com
If they have an update it will comes with documentation as to what the update does.

Hope this helps you out.
