Fujitsu Siemens Lifebook C1020 laptop display and booting problem

Fujitsu Siemens Lifebook C1020 laptop with Windows XP Professional. S3 Graphics ProSavageDDR (Microsoft Corporation) display adapter. All of a sudden flickering red display. Laptop frequently does not boot - fan stops after a few seconds from switch on, then black screen and just green power-on light. When it does start, after many attempts, vertical lines sometimes appear on display. Laptop sometimes switches off by itself, and reboots. Sometimes freezes while booting. Occasionally reboots successfully and with normal display, but then freezes after some time working. Thank you.

Thanks DrifterK for quick your response. I have two 256MB RAM modules in my laptop. I tried to reboot with only one module at a time, using both modules alternately. No luck. Could the problem be the video card? Thanks.

Change the ram memory ...this issues appear when the ram memory is not functional like it should..if you have a way to borrow some just to try ..you will make an ideea
If you have more than one boards in the laptop..remove one by one ..and try to boot with the other/s until you locate the one with problem..

Im not that sure the videocard will be the problem ..usually when they gobad ...they just die...so ...try anyway to reinstall the video driver ...cause if it is a setting issue ..this will fix it ...the fact that the ram memory is ok ..its a good thing .....it might be also a virus or something related with the video ..so before you change the videocard..just reinstall a clean xp on the notebook..and get the original drivers from the site ..at least for the S3 utility video..

How do I restore the built in keyboard on my Fujitsu Lifebook C 1020

You need to take apart the laptop to do this.

Why not simply attach a portable USB keyboard which will work just as well?

The pc will not boot Just shows the window logo and an attempt to boot instead keep trying without actually booting

There should be missing OS file or corrupted files, Press F8 several times while you power on the PC and select safe mode, uninstall recently installed software, scan with updated antivirus and clean all the temporary files, cookies, etc. If this doesn't solve, you need to repair the windows/Operating System by using the OS Setup CD. Good luck..

My laptop doesn't turn on and the red indicator of the battery

check the power settings and make sure that the battery and power cable settings are on when plugged in. Also sometimes a battery needs to be installed to do this. If the power adapter is working then all should be fine.

My Fujitu Lifebook c1020 display is bad and needs swapping. I need a repair maual.

its pretty simple to change the screen on this computer, and you dont really need a service manual (i dont even think you will find one for that)

the way you do it is remove the rubber "dots" around the screen, there should be atleast 4.

when they are out, and you have removed the hidden screws, you can take of the frontbezel around the screen.

when the bezel is off you might need to loosen or remove 1 of the 2 screwes on each side at the bottom hinge.

the screen itself is fastened to the hinge with 2-4 screws on each side of the screen. remove them, take out the flat/wide cable on the backside, and disconnect it from the 5-6cm long printbord.

reverse the process when you put in the new screeen.
