Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

TV problems? We have been getting vertical lines and flickering in our picture. We've checked all cable connections and had cable company send more signals. We haven't added any other devices (audio/video), to or around tv. It seems it's fine for the first 5 minutes after turning on tv, but then gradually gets worse.

My HP omni 100 all in one has vertical lines on pictures only, how do I fix this?

In most cases, stationary lines mean the screen is failing. If there is flickering, the LCD cable or a connection could be the problem. If the screen is normal brightness, the inverter is most likely not the cause.

It may only show up only on pictures because they are the only images with solid blocks of color.

Black vertical line on p42w34p plasma

The plasma display screen is made of a matrix of elements connected to cables along the side and top. On your unit, some of these many, tiny connections are making contact intermittantly thus losing the elements in that area. These contacts are held in place with just pressure and if that is disturbed, you lose that line of elements. Try squeezing the cabinet of the TV on the outside at the top in the area of the loss and see if that makes a difference. May have to go inside and see if the contact assembly is disturbed or warped or something.

Dear Sir, I have the same model, very nice pictures, but lately the pictures sometime it flickers and the are horizontal broken lines. Sometimes it is perfect. Kindly advise- T.Q - DAG

Turn off the plasma TV, wait for 10 minutes then turn it back on. Sometimes during first installation, the television can develop vertical lines. These lines are usually not the television but noise from a secondary device. This action will fix 50% of the plasma TVs out there.

Check secondary devices. Make sure they are disconnected and turned off. Secondary devices can cause noise in your TV, creating these annoying lines. A good example is the lines you see when you turn on your blender. Malfunctioning secondary devices can generate these lines.

Check your cable connections. Make sure that your coaxial and HDMI cables are connected properly. Bad connections can create noise in the television and cause these lines.

Go to your television's support website and download the latest version of the firmware. You can do this by transferring the program to a flash drive then using that flash drive to update your TV. There are corrective measures inside these firmware updates for the most common problems like vertical and horizontal lines. You can then put your flash drive directly into your television's USB port and update your firmware from the television setup menu. Once this is done, the vertical lines should disappear.

If they don't, then it means a display panel is failing. If that's the case, it may be cheaper to replace the whole TV, rather than just replacing the panel

Intermittent change of resolution.

Sounds like nothing more than a tcon cable connection. I would try unplugging then plugging the cable connection to the tcon and also the two upper tcon cables that are located under the Tcons metal cover.

Vizio 48 flat screen has sound, picture will not come on right away

What cable is being used? Often times there is a few things that could effect the picture and causing flicker. If you are using an HDMI cable, or the hdmi plug on the box or tv, you could have that problem. Because the picture is digital, you don't get the snow and lines we were used to. Because the cables are so stuff, often over time they can stress and pull on the plug and cable. Try a new cable, if that does not work, try another hdmi input on the tv. If that fails then try a new cable, like a component cable or RCA. If none of these work and you still have this issue with the box then most likely it is the tv or the box. Swap out a new source, and start this process all over again. If you get the same result then it is the tv. If it works with the same cables, then it is your box. Att will send you a new box if that is the case. If it is the tv, call Vizio. Warranty or not call them. If you are sure you are out of warranty, play dumb, be vague but nice. Often you can get someone out there still at no cost.

Zenith LCD Flat Screen TV just shows vertical lines of color

Press menu button on the TV if the on screen display is also distorted or no pic the TV is definetely defective. You can try unpluuging from wall for about 15 minutes and see if reset helps if not problem is either main p.c.b , LCD panel , LVDS cable or Power supply board. and would require service. most likely problem would be bad connection at or defective LVDS cable that connects main p.c.b to Panel (cheapest fix) or defective main p.c.b. If it is the panel it would probably not be worth repairing and you may want to sell as is on ebay.

TV picture flickers

If your DVD player is separate from your tv, you might have a loose cable plug or connection. Depending on the type of flicker you have, a vertical circuit loose connection would cause this. If you could connect it to a cable or antenna it might tell you where the problem is located. A faulty circuit in the DVD might cause this too. Stargazer
