Question about Craig 731398407019 Portable DVD Player

1 Answer

Craig Portable DVD Player, Model CTFT701

We have 2 of these units and both eventually have gotten to the point that when a DVD is inserted and the top closed, the Disc will load and continue loading (spinning) for maybe 60 seconds or more and then just stop without loading the movie - or it just continues to load without ever stopping the spinning until I open the cover and remove the disc- but still no movie. It seems to do this with both the battery and the plug, it doesnt seem to matter.

Hello
The loading mechanism has the trouble. The inserted CD or DVD does not engage into the laser assembly unit properly. It may be due some fault with its loading motor or loading belt. Check these.

I think I found these adjustments! There are two tiny surface-mount potentiometers (could be capacitors also) sitting in the small circuit on laser assembly.

this is exactly response I would like to hear - an expert opinion!

What I did with help of 1mm-wide screwdriver:

1) There were two surface-mount potentiometers marked with C1 and D. I tried first D. Turned it clock- and counterclockwise by about 45 degrees.
2) After each turn I opened and closed tray to force the player read DVD disc.
3) It did not help, "NO DISC", then I tried the same with C1, and again, no luck.
4) Finally, I came back to D and turned it by about 180 degrees in one direction. IT WORKED!!!

Moreover, seem that now player reads content of the DVD discs faster then before. Probably manufacturer did not really adjust it properly and upon the time something has degraded, so it failed eventually.

First, make sure the DVD Recorder is completely disconnected from the Main Supply.

Then, if you look on the base of the unit, (just underneath the front of the Disc Insert/Eject Tray), there is a small slot, (approx 25 x 8mm), in which you can see a small, white, plastic lever probably situated near the right-hand side of the slot.

Then move this lever gently to the left, and then turn it on and the tray opens by pushing the button.

I just fixed this problem. This will not fix any underlying problem, but it will get you up and running again. THIS MIGHT SCRATCH THE CD.
Unplug the unit. Remove the top cover. There are screws on the side and the back. Once you do you will see the dvd is not in correct position. Slide it around till you feel it drop into place. YES, YOU MAY END UP SCRATCHING THE CD. Plug the unit back in and it will eject.

For me the underlying problem is that the disc drawer closes while I am putting the cd in, causing it to not be seated properly. If anyone knows how to fix this .....
