Question about Televison & Video

3 Answers

I have an LG 42lh30 I bought less than a month ago from frys. When I opened the box it did seem slightly used maybe it was returned and refurbished or something. I have an xbox and I use a philips 1080p full hd cord to connect it to the tv. I dvds on it and the picture quality is very pixelated with tiny squares and blurry in spots. When the screen is brighter you can hardly notice the picture looks way better. You can only notice in the face and when they move fast. But when the screen is darker the picture quality is very bad and pixelated. Im sure the picture quality doesn't change it is just way more noticable in darker screens. I also tried disconnecting it from everything and just plugging in the cable cord and checked the picture quality and it was the exact same as before. So using the hdmi cord and making the settings for the tv and xbox on 1080p full hd for watching dvds, and using the cable cord with no hdmi cord and I got the exact same picture quality. I now know the problem must be with my tv and not my hdmi cord or xbox, so now I am wondering if I need to change my tv settings to fix the problem or if it is internal and I need to send it back. I am pretty sure it was a returned tv to begin with even though I bought it new.

I wanted another perspective because I have already returned another tv to get this one and didn't want to go throught the hassle of returning it if I could. I also thought it would be good to see two different answers to see what you agree on and what you don't agree on.

Now just to clarify when you are watching dvds on the television are they Blu-Ray and HD-DVDs or are they standard DVDs being upscaled to 1080p? If they are regular DVDs that are being upscaled then that could be the reason for the picture quality. Regular DVDs that are upscaled to HD tend to have a pixelated picture because of the change in resolution. The HD-DVDs and Blu-Ray discs should be very clear. If you are playing regular DVDs in HD then I suggest trying them in 720p and see how the picture looks.

If I were in your shoes I would send it back while you still can. Then if you have the same issues with the next one you may want to consider a different model. Most likely you got a "new" one. Contact frys immediately.
They have a 30 day satisfaction guarantee.

thank you and good luck,

p.s. feel free to keep me updated as to what the outcome is.

Hi,

Is it a Duplicate Question....Wonder why?

Same reply :0

This is an internal Fault. Diagnosis is required to make sure whether it is Failed T Con Board or Light Engine. I do not think that it would really help by changing the TV settings. This was a Common Problem with Old LCD's where you got Blurry Spots specially while Playing Real Fast Movies or Games. On Few Occasions, it as Corrupted Firmware.

As i cannot see the Video or Screen from here, more likely what i could guess it is an Internal Fault as you have tried using HDMI, Use different Setting Combination's and you got the same Picture Quality with DVD as well.

So, what i could suggest, get back to the Seller and Lodge an Official Complain and get it Replaced. There is no point in Opening and TV and Inspecting it and Replacing Components when it was less than a month ago.

Let me know, if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

In most cases these types of home appliances are not repaired, the cost new is less than any repair cost if parts are even available which I doubt. As far as a replacement buy new, no refurbished, bad idea.

Moved Sony Bravia TV, now will not turn on at all

The warranty on this set should be for 1 year. Return it for warranty service. Unless the set was dropped, moving it should not have effected anything. DO NOT open the set sas that would void the warranty.
