Multimedia audio drivers

There is NO several drivers to try, Bakari

There are ONLY two.........

http://support.gateway.com/us/en/product/default.aspx?tab=1&modelId=3143

The bottom two drivers;
Sigmatel - 5.10.5082.0
And,
Conexant - 6.14.10.575

They are both for WinXP, and are both for either a 32-bit version, or 64-bit version.

XPx86XPx64

XPx86 means it's for an XP 32-bit version
XPx64 means it's for an XP 64-bit version.

The DIFFERENCE here, is whether the Audio chipset is made by Sigmatel, or Conexant.

How to know? Go to Device Manager, and look........

Start > Right-click on My Computer > Left-click on Properties at the bottom of the list.
Left-click on the Hardware tab. Left-click on Device Manager.

Click on the + next to - Sounds, video and game controllers
In the fly-out side menu; do you see Conexant, or Sigmatel?

Using Sigmatel as an example;

Third audio driver file down......Sigmatel - 5.10.5082.0
Click on the blue -> Audio to the Left.
(Or click on the Download arrow all the way to the right)

A small window will come up -
Opening Audio_Sigmatel_5.10.5082.0_XPx86XPx64_A.zip

Make SURE there is a GREEN dot in the small circle, to the left of Save File.
IF not; left-click in the empty circle to the left of Save File.
Now go below in the small window, and click on OK.

A small download window will come up.
Allow the file to download ALL the way, then DOUBLE-click right on the file name.
Another small window will come up.
Go to the far Left side, click on - Extract all files.

At the bottom of the next 3 small windows, click on -
Next, Next, and Finish.

(DO NOT change anything! Just click on Next, Next, and Finish)

If you are not asked to restart your computer, do so.
Close all windows, go back to your desktop screen; and restart your computer.
(Start > Turn Off Computer > Restart)

The taskbar is on the bottom of the desktop screen. The Time is in it, for one. So is the Volume icon. It is a Speaker symbol.

If you do not have the Volume icon in your taskbar;

Click on Start > Control Panel > Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices.
On the next window click on - Sounds and Audio Devices.

In the Sounds, and Audio Devices Properties window, go to the middle, and to the subheading - Device volume

Click in the empty square to the left of -
Place volume icon in the taskbar
(Puts a green checkmark in the box)

Now go below to the Right, and click on - Apply
Then go below to the Left, and click on - OK

Wireless connection keeps turning on and off every 10 secs. Contacted internet provider they say it could be the driver?

We'll start with the Driver, and see.

A Driver is a small piece of software written, to allow the Operating System to 'communicate' with a device.
Windows XP is one example of an O/S, and the wireless adapter, is an example of a device.

Acer Support > Aspire 6530-5143 Notebook PC > Driver Download page,

http://support.acer.com/us/en/product/default.aspx?tab=1&modelId=566

Scroll the page down to the heading - Wireless LAN
You will see there are several drivers listed.

There are several things that need to be matched up, in order to download the correct driver.

1) The Operating System.
What O/S is installed on the laptop?
Windows XP, or Windows Vista?

2) What wireless module is installed in the laptop?
What manufacturer is it?
Atheros, Broadcom, or Ralink?

1a) Operating System.
This one is easy. You know which O/S is on your computer.
However you may need to find out which version it is.
32-bit (x86) ot 64-bit.

Windows XP:
Left-click on Start, then Right-click on My Computer.
Left-click on Properties at the bottom of the list.
The Windows version is listed at the top.

Windows Vista:
Left-click on the Windows logo button, then Right-click on Computer.
Left-click on Properties at the bottom of the list.
The Windows version is listed at the top.
Windows Vista x86 is the 32-bit version.
Windows Vista x64 is the 64-bit version.

2a) To find out the wireless module (Adapter) manufacturer perform this;

Windows XP:
Left-click on Start, then Right-click on My Computer.
Left-click on Properties at the bottom of the list.

Now left-click on the Hardware tab. Then left-click on Device Manager.
After Device Manager has fully loaded, left-click on the + sign next to - Network adapters.
Do you see Atheros, or Broadcom, or Ralink, listed?

Write down the wireless adapter manufacturer name.

Windows Vista:
Left-click on the Windows logo button, then Right-click on Computer.
Left-click on Properties, then follow the above as listed out for WinXP.

If it is an Atheros wireless adapter, see if it has T77H053, or T60H976 listed next to it.
There is a specific driver listed for these two models.

An example;
If you know that the wireless adapter is Not an Atheros, and Not one of the two models, T77H053, or T60H976, there are 7 drivers listed.
(These 7 drivers are listed in-between the T77H053, and T60H976 models)

The first two drivers listed are for Atheros. (Under the T77H053 heading)
The first Atheros driver is for Windows XP.
The second Atheros driver is for Windows Vista.

For an example, if you have Windows XP as an O/S, and an Atheros wireless adapter, you would use the first Atheros driver listed.

Not an Atheros wireless adapter?
Let's go on to Broadcom, then.

The first Broadcom driver listed is for Vista, and the 32-bit version.
The second Broadcom driver listed is for Vista, and the 64-bit version.
The third Broadcom driver listed is for Windows XP. (32-bit version)

In Vista left-click on the Windows logo button, then Right-click on Computer.
You are looking at the System Properties window.
At the top portion will tell you what operating system you are using, and what version.
32-bit (x86) or 64-bit.

The first Ralink wireless driver listed is for Windows XP.
The second Ralink driver listed is for Vista, and the 64-bit version.

Confusing? Isn't meant to be.
If you find out what Operating System you are using, and what wireless adapter, using what I have posted above, simply state this information in a Comment, and I will guide you to the correct driver.

Once you left-click on the correct driver file you need, a small window will come up on the right side.
It starts with, "Opening........" in the heading at the top of the small window.

Left-click on OK at the bottom of the small window.
A small window will come up on the left side.
In the wording of the heading at the top of this small window, tells you where the file will download to.

A) For Windows XP:
It may have Desktop, or My Documents, or Downloads, in the wording of the heading.

Desktop: The file will be on your desktop screen

My Documents: Left-click on Start, then on My Documents

Downloads: Left-click on Start, then on My Documents, then DOUBLE-click on Downloads.

B) Windows Vista:
It may have Desktop, or Documents, or Downloads, in the heading.

Desktop: The file will be on your desktop screen.

Documents: Left-click on the Windows logo button, then on Documents.

Downloads: Left-click on the Windows logo button, then on Documents. DOUBLE-click on Downloads.

C) When you see the file name, DOUBLE-click right on it. (Opens the file)
The Installation Wizard will come up.
Follow the easy instructions.

(Essentially just click on Next, next, and Finish at the bottom of the windows. DO NOT alter any settings, as Windows knows THE correct place to put the wireless driver file)

I know it's a lot to take in, but instead of replying back, and forth to obtain the information needed, (What O/S, what wireless adapter), I posted all of it for you to see.

As stated, if you post the O/S (Operating System), and what wireless adapter it is, and I'll guide you.

[Windows is a 'funny' animal. Sometimes drivers are lost.
It isn't actually that the driver isn't there anymore, it is the address to the driver that is lost ]

My burner on my dell e 5400 wont let me play or burn disc what can i do you can reach me at chuckspolishing53@yahoo.com

A) Clean the optical eye of the CD/DVD burner. If the laser optical is dirty it won't read disks.
The laser optical eye is located in the bottom of the CD/DVD drive.

You can,
1) Turn the computer on, open the CD/DVD drive tray, and then turn the computer off.
Unplug the computer from power.
Use a can of compressed air for computers, and spray towards the bottom.
After you are satisfied the optical eye is clean, let the computer sit for 3 minutes.
Then plug into power.

Open the drive, try a disk.

2) Use an optical cleaner disk. The disk usually has small brushes on it, which you are to properly apply a few drops of cleaner to.
Then the drive tray is closed, and the disk does it's job.
There are many variations of disk cleaners, the above is just one example.

B) You may have driver problems.
A Driver is a small piece of software that the Operating System uses to 'communicate' with a device.
{Windows XP is one example of an O/S. A CD/DVD drive is one example of a device}

Sometimes Windows is a 'funny animal'. Files tend to be corrupted. A Driver file may be fragmented.
You have to 'slap Windows around' a little bit.

1) Left-click on Start, then Right-click on My Computer. (Windows XP)
2) Left-click on Properties at the bottom of the list.

You are now looking at the System Properties window.

3) Left-click on the Hardware tab at the top.

4) Left-click on Device Manager in the middle.

5) When Device Manager loads, left-click on the + sign next to > DVD/CD-ROM Drives.

6) Right-click on the drive's name.

7) Left-click on Uninstall.

A Microsoft 'squawk box' will come up.
"Warning, you are about to uninstall this device, ya-da, ya-da"

Click on OK.
(It is Ok)

8) Now close all windows, go back to your desktop screen only.

9) Turn your computer off. WAIT 1 minute, then turn your computer on.

After Windows loads you should see a pop-up of of the system tray at the bottom of the screen,
"Found New Hardware", and perhaps another pop-up after that, "Found XXXXXX CD/DVD drive"

If your CD/DVD drive doesn't work now, I suggest it's tiem to buy a new one.
Mechanical devices in a computer are rated in hours of usage, and your optical drive, (CD/DVD drive) may be at the end of it's 'Life-span'.

Example,

http://www.amazon.com/Notebook-Burner-Drive-Latitude-Optiplex/dp/B0042WQ3QC

Dell Inspiron E5400 Service Manual from Dell Support,

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/late5400/en/sm/index.htm

Click on > Optical Drive on the right side.

Logitechquick cam - can't see my mother

Hi,

from the logitech video instructions it says:
Going full screen is easy. When you're on a video call, just click the icon (on the left corner) to enlarge your video to full screen.
Just click on the video or press ESC to return to normal video size.
Picture-in-picture allows you to see what others see. Click on the PIP icon to turn it on.

If this is not working as it is the latest XP driver needs to be downloaded from the logitech web site.

New browser windows open to the right of the previous one.

Instead of opening a new IE browser for each site, try using the Tabs at the top (blank square next to the Website title). (see below)
You can also Right-Click on links on web pages and select "Open Link in New Tab". This should also help your computer run better as opening new browser windows uses more memory.
