Most Monitors. Have A Seperate Power Cord.
They vary in shape and size. 2 pin 3pin et,c.
Have a good look at the back, and check. you should have a power connector socket inlet. And a cable out socket, to connect Monitor To Sound Card On The Back of the Desktop.
These can be located on the back underside of the monitor.
if in doubt search for your monitor make and model on the net, and try to get some instructions.
hope this helps Mike.

If its a flat screen monitor ?

eMachines flat-screen monitors offer high quality at low cost. eMachines flat-screen monitors are compatible with most brands of PCs. Issues with eMachines flat-screen monitors can arise from faulty power sources, cable problems and incompatible settings. These issues can be resolved by testing step-by-step each possible cause.

Plug the computer's power cable firmly into a working AC outlet. Press the computer's power button.

Check the LEDs on the front of the computer case to confirm that the computer receives power. Plug the eMachines monitor's power cable into a working AC outlet. Press the monitor's power button. Check the LEDs on the front bezel or power button of the eMachines monitor to confirm that the monitor receives power. Orange or blinking LEDs indicate low power or no signal. Green LEDs denote a working connection.. Perform a monitor self-test. Switch off the monitor. Unplug the video cable from the monitor. Press the eMachines monitor's power button. An eMachines logo, Windows logo or "no signal" message indicates that the monitor is working properly. Plug the eMachines monitor's video cable into the video port on the computer. Contact Gateway, eMachines manufacturer, if the monitor issue is not resolved. Hope this helps.

Desktop: Gateway LX6810-01 PC will not power on. When I hit the Power button on the tower, a long continuous BEEP comes on and nothing appears on the monitor. After the BEEP, the On light (on tower)...

Thank you for using FixYa

I would try shutting down the computer in the normal way, and turning off the monitor.
Boot up and turn the monitor back on.
If it still doesn't work, then I would check the cables and power plugs and wall plugs.
Check the mouse and keyboard cable and any other cables plugged into the computer.
The next step requires a seperate monitor or laptop.
Try unplugging the monitor and pluging in another monitor. Most laptops have a common
VGA adaptor jack or even an Svideo jack.
If the other monitor does not work, Then take to a qualified technician for repair.
It could be your power supply in the computer or video controller.

I hope this was useful and please comment if this was helpful to you.

Firstly my computer wouldnt turn on at all so i was adviced to take the side off and clean it with a makeup brush to clear all the dust away i did so and it powers on now but my monitor wont, i have...

Clean up your Monitor Connection and it's Multi Pin Plug in as well. It is best if you were to purchase a Can of compressed air to clean your computer in any form not a brush!!! I blow all my PCs out once a Month. I have 4 cans on hand right now!! You should not have any problem in doing this. The only other thing is that you have a bad connection for your Monitor on your Tower. Not Likely though. Just look and make sure that non of the Pins are broken or bent. Please Let Me Know!!!! Best of Luck!!

My emachine T1742 desktop will not turn on. When plugged in the power supply's fan turns on, cpu fan doesnt start, both hdd/power led's flicker and pressing power button doesnt power on/off system.

Disconnect all the devices from the computer(tower) including keyboard, mouse, monitor(everything)..even the power cable

Now keep on holding down the power button on the computer tower for 15-30 seconds..

Now release the power button, plug in the power cable, monitor, keyboard, mouse and turn on the computer...

If it works, great!!!

Otherwise, take it for repair..

Emachine tower unresponsive

Unplug the Monitor, and attempt to reconnect a seperate monitor to test. If that monitor works properly, then the problem is your regular monitor. If you do not have another monitor, Try unplugging the power from the wall jack to the tower. Then plug into another port, the reason the computer doesn't turn on is because the power outlet may be running but at a lower voltage then what is required for the computer to run at its full potential. If theese both fail, Try opening your computer and check if anything is blown out.

Problems with computer booting into monitor

Install the driver for the monitor on your emachine? If you have a driver already installed, try reinstalling it or check that you have the latest version.
If you do not have the cd-rom with the driver, go to the monitor manufacturer's website and download the driver.
This should solve the problem :-)
