Question about Sunfire Cinema Grand 200 Five 5-Channel Amplifier

2 Answers

Was working fine. started burning ac line fuses and noticed a little smoke. I found a bad light switch going to the ac outlet it was plugged into, which I think has caused this whole problem. removed the switch out of the loop but amp still frying ac fuses. what's wrong and can it be fixed by somebody other than the overpriced rita's vintage (now $350.+ u pay ship both ways) Dano

Thanks, I ended up having to send it up to WA to Rita's anyway. Seems NOBODY in SoCal can get schematics or parts to repair these amps and keep the signature of the sound. Carver sold a ton of these (since 1996) in SoCal and there should be somebody down here that knows how to repair them, they do break occasionally. I've now had to send it to WA twice, which I guess isn't bad for owning it 15 yr. I did get a load of double tech talk from the Sunfire tech (at least I thought even though I know 0 about capacitors, diodes, rails, etc.) He told me I must have had a massive elec. surge which fried everything from power supply to main caps. I had opened the cover and nothing even looked fried. He wanted to replace the main caps with some used smaller ones from another amp since they no longer make the same size anymore. That's when I really started to get pissed off and started to complain about the whole thing. I paid $2300 for the amp in 1996 and supposedly it was the battleship of home theater amps, have spent $800 for 2 trips to WA shipping. Never abused it. Got it back and it sounds pretty good again but to this day I still don't know if the main caps were replaced with smaller ones. At this point I don't even give a fxxk..Next time it dumps on me I'm dumping it and going with another brand more local to my area. I will say in behalf of the sound of the Sunfire line that I love it. Strong, detailed, rich, and seductive with good depth and sound staging. That's what it's all about to me. Forget all that other technical and clinical BS. After a few beers or glasses of wine who can tell the difference anyway...................Dano

U have a shorted primary power supply unit on your amp. for linear supply check diodes and capacitors. for smps chek switching transistor or any other switching component. if u have no idea get it repaired by a tech.

I have a Sunfire 300 Two, when powered on and connected t the pre amp the output became very low, also the sound is not normal the sound is clipped and towards to high treble. I removed both the RCA cables to the pre amp and slowly touched the RCA pin to induce hum and this hum is high pitched towards high frequency not the normal 50Hz hum, occurs in both channel so I think its some thing to do with the Tracking power supply, removed the cover found no burned parts. any advise

Skill saw table saw model 3400.Bypassed on off switch still no power?Does motor have a breaker on inside?

I have the same saw.

Sorry but this question has to be asked, is the AC (Alternating Current) outlet working/ an live outlet? Had to ask.

If outlet is good move on to the next steps.

Take an ohm meter / continuity meter.

With the AC power cord unplugged from the AC wall outlet.

Place the two test leads from the meter onto the plug prongs .

With the switched closed/ON, you should get zero ohms (or very low, close to zero/ continuity).

In your case you probably will not have any continuity because it doesn't turn on.

Now comes the fun part trying to find the problem/ open connection.

Lots of possibilities.

  1. The AC cord could be bad at the plug end.

  2. The AC cord could be bad at the point entering the table saw.

  3. The motor could be bad.

  4. The brushes in the motor could be bad.

  5. The field winding in the motor could be open/bad.

The plan is to ohm/continuity check the path of the power going to the motor, (both sides of wiring).

While meter leads are on the AC plug end, wiggle the strain relief ends. You have an intermittent connection.

TROUBLE: SAW WILL NOT START

PROBLEM 1. Power cord is not plugged in.

2. Fuse or circuit breaker tripped.

3. Cord damaged.

4. Burned out switch.

REMEDY 1. Plug saw in.

2. Replace fuse or reset tripped circuit breaker.

3. Have cord replaced by an Authorized Skil Service Center or Service Station.

4. Have switch replaced by an Authorized Skil Service Center or Service Station.

Smokes and smells like gas at muffler

That has to be gas that is not being burned! No idea why blowing a fuse with the air compressor rashed your car like that - must be coincidental or collateral damage.

My grinder is plugged in to a working outlet but will not turn on. Any suggestions?

No. 1: Check that there is current at the outlet, this can be done with a lamp or other 120VAC device. If no light (operation go to No.2, else No.3) No.2 Check that the fuse/circuit breaker corresponding to the outlet is fine. No.3 check any switch or fuse on the unit. No.4 Check that the pins on the plug make good contact in the outlet receptacle. Sometimes it is necessary to bend them a little bit. If none of this works, the other possibility is a bad power cord or broken motor.
Hope this helps!

Wont turn on; remote/tv power switch inoperative

hi I am Vortash .. burning smells usually mean Power supply or line output .. flyback problems .. this is probably one of those jobs only an engineer should look at .. voltages on the line can exceed 400 volts and are highly dangerous the line output from the transformer depending on the type of tube can be up to 25,000 volts .. so best leave this one to the proffesionals Regards Vortash

Unit will not power up

Start with the simple fix first. Is the unit powered by a wall transformer or an ac line cord. When I have these problems I always start with the wall converter. Maybe it's dead. Substitute another converter of same or lower voltage. Does the unit power or at least light up? Bingo, Swap converters. Don't assume the converter is working. Ac line cord? Swap it out. Fuse on the unit? Check or replace it Final idiot fix - plug a test light into your ac outlet. Be sure it's live. I spent an hour frantically tracing power trouble on a PA set-up, only to discover ONE outlet in a duplex was bad. Now I check with a power test light first. ***************

This TV worked very will until the past two weeks when it refused to start up

Any sound? If so, it could be a bad display or high-voltage or associated problem.

No sound and no picture could be a bad line cord, power switch, blown fuse or AC problem.

In this case, make sure it is plugged into the ac outlet and the ac outlet is getting power by plugging in a lamp that is known to work into the outlet. If it does not light, then ther is no ac power at the outlet and you have a bad fuse or tripped circuit breaker (most likely) or (less likely) a faulty outlet or break in the house wiring.

Good luck! :)
