Question about BenQ FP92W LCD Monitor

2 Answers

Benq FP92W LCD monitor: Backlight fails after approx 5 seconds. One of the 15pf 3KV disc ceramic capacitors was arcing at the top. Replaced the capacitor but fault still there. Unable to identify most transistors on the power board ... one transistor under the board has (slightly) discolored the top of the board ... may have been hot but can't feel any heat there now. Any advice you can give me would be helpful. I don't have a service manual. I am a retired avionics technician. Kind regards, John.

If someone has access to a service manual and can advise me what the inverter transistor type numbers are, I would have a real chance of fixing this board. I have the equipment and skills to carry out a component level repair to this board. It's really the challenge ... I hate to throw good stuff away.

    Kind regards,
    John.

Hi, by the time you source the parts and the schematics it will be cheaper to buy a new monitor or s complete pcb

I have used this supplier and found that they are ok

When an inverter board fails, a component level repair is usually not possible. Reason? Most of the board's functions are performed by solid state electronics which cannot be repaired. You may be better off replacing the board more so since an inverter board for a monitor of this size costs under 50$

Power not on, power button blinks green power light, doesn't power up. Benq FP92W

It sounds like you have a power supply problem and the safety shutdown has kicked in, the system will need to be checked by a computer tech with an estimate in mind.

How to replace a fuse. Monitor won't power on. Light flashes briefly then goes out.

The fuse is OK because if the main fuse is bad you will not get anything at all. It may have soldered in fuse in the backlight inverter circuits. You have to open it up and troubleshoot it down to component level. So please read my guide first if you are going to DIY repair.
If you are going to DIY and already try the monitor with another PC, and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on: Notes: look for bad caps first.
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/

When I plug in the monitor the green power LED comes on for approx 2 seconds then goes out. If I unplug the monitor for at least 10 seconds it will repeat the light on for 2 sec. If I unplug it for less...

It can be power supply, backlight inverter, or bad lamp assembly. You need to open it up and do in-depthtroubleshooting. Please read below and look at pictures, learn ablut bad caps, how LCD monitor works.

Screen will not turn on, unless I turn it on and off at least 50 times, at which point it finally fires up.

You may have dying power supply due to bad DC filter caps, that will be the first place to look.

VGA turns on after afew seconds turns off

Well... it's seems your backlight inverter are busted. Need to replaced or repaired. To repaired, check for faulty capacitors on the inverter. ( For example, like a buldged on top of each caps.) Not sure...just replaced all the caps! Good lucks, have a nice day!

Screen working and after 2 sec screen black

On your power board you will have a faulty surface mount fet with 8 legs that controls the backlights.
There are 4 of these, but if any of them fail the protection circuit turns them all off.
Best best is to get it to a local technician for repair. It is not an easy task unless you have the right equipment.
Hope that helps. =)
