You have to hit play again after you unplug the headphones and turn the volume up using the buttons on the left side of the device, if you have no buttons on the left side then you have the 1st Gen iPod touch which you can only listen to with headphones.

Try restoring the ipod or cleaning the ipod jack first. Usually it is caused by the dirt accumulated inside the jack. The ipod thinks there is a headphone inserted even when there is none.

It sounds like you have a headphone jack failure. Have you had any difficulty inserting the headset? Was there any event that happened when headphones were in and working.

My iPod touch sounds very bad with or without headphones what can I do???

Not sure what you mean by sounds bad, but you can try bringing it in to Apple in order to have them hear it, since we can't hear it. They may have a simple solution to whatever the problem may be.

It sounds like it's definitely a problem with your iPod. . . Sometimes the connectors on the inside of the unit can go bad. I've not heard now this can be fixed though. I would try calling apple and seeing it the unit is still under warranty.

Restart your ipod by holding the home and power button at the same time, this will restart it and should fix it.

Music outside the iPod

You can't because you can't. It is not a speaker that is meant for music, last time i checked it was pseudo something but forgot the exact name, its not able to make audio, just ticking sounds. Its sort of like the 'beep' that happens when your computer starts, you can't make that speaker play music it just beeps..

Hello rd34227,

If the headphones are defective, you should be able to purchase replacement headphones at the store where you bought the iPod.

Depending on when you bought the item the unit may still be under manufacturer's warranty. If that is the case you should give Apple a call at 1-800-275-2273 and they can advise you whether the headphones would be covered and how to get a replacement.

Best Regards,
Ken
