Hotpoint Aquarius WMA52 has got an intermittent fault. Program starts and then at random "door unlocked" light illuminates and program stops. Is this something simple like a reset needed?. If so, then how?. Or does it need a part and a service call?.

It is probably a faulty door lock, a common problem.
Remove front of door seal by releasing the wire clamp, and unscrew door lock, it has 3 wires going to it, to prove it is the door lock, short out the 2 wires marked C and L ,it should now work, if it does not , then the fault is elsewhere,, but I feel confident this is the problem.

The flashing door lock light is indicating that the door is not closed proerly.
This can be caused by a weak or broken spring in the door handle.
Another reason for this to happen, is a faulty control board at the top of the washer, a blown track will cause this.
This in turn, is usally caused by a fault on the motor.
Hope this helps.
easiest way to get the clothes out is to power the pump up independantly of the machine. you will need a length of mains cable and connectors. having got the water out, you should be able to remove clothes. another way is to put the drain hose down at floor level into a bucket and this will drain most of the water away.
the actual fault is rather more difficult but check there is power the machine side of the mains suppressor. another possibility is the door interlock.
