Good day,
10/35 is fine. They don't always give the defrost period time. The original may have been a 10/30 or the same as the one you have. In either case the longer the better, since it allows more time for the water to drain out and prevent icing in the drain.

On a Jenn Air Model JCD2289AES refrigerator, how do I replace the defrost timer - I have the new timer

According to your model number you don't have a defrost timer you have an adaptive defrost control which monitors the freezer and fridge and determines when it's time to defrost. It's part 13 on this diagram. http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getSubComp.pd?modelNumber=JCD2289AES&productCategoryId=0165000&brandId=1266&brandDescription=JENN-AIR&modelName=SIDE-BY-SIDE-REFRIGERATOR&diagramPageId=00007&componentDescription=CONTROLS&documentId=M0406285&blt=06

If the defrost thermostat and heater are good then replace the control if you are have defrost problems.

My refrigerator stopped working and will not come back on. It is a Jenn-Air Side by side purchased 4 years ago.

you might have a defrost problem. Frost free models have a heating element that is controlled by a timer to automatically defrost ice, defrost timer turns on defrost heating element every 12 hours to melt ice in freezer and allow good air flow.
You can test defrost element with an ohm meter(located inside freezer coils-will have two wires going to a plug connection), if OK replace defrost timer (located in various places depending on make and model

My Jenn-air refridgerator model JCD2389GEW is not cooling

turn freezer to higher temp and turn fresh to lower temp this maximizes airflow into the refrigerator. check the door that regulates airflow into fresh side..see if its stuck closed for some reason. good luck! :)

Both freezer and refrigerator temp variations

in most refridgerator cabins is a air dam at top right of side by side and it could be sticking open and working other times or it could get stuck in defrost cycle due to defrost timer not working properly.defrost timer would be first thing to look to.
