Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

I have an RCA model Number 32F531T. It was working fine ad then it ceased to have apicture or sound. Could it be the fuse and if so where is the fuse located so that I can order another one and have it replaced. If it could not be the fuse do you ave any idea what could have caused the problem? Thank You for your time and I hope to hear from you soon. Michelle

No picture no sound...The green light comes on like there is power but none seems to be going where it needs to

  • rezcookie Feb 17, 2008

Nothing is showing on the screen. No picture, no menu. no nothing. Not even the snow is showing. I will try to unplug for four hours and see what happens. We havew a lot of power outages where i live could this cause a malfuntion? Could it be a fuse? If so where is the fuse located?

I think I need a lot of luck!

  • rezcookie Feb 18, 2008

Thanks for your help, I will try to find the fuse. We live far from any repair person.4 hours or so to be exact so hopefully we can fix it by getting a fuse. What would cause the signal board to go out?

  • rezcookie Feb 18, 2008

What do you mean...The electricity going out on and off? I live on the reservation far from anything. I usually have to fix whatever is wrong myself but i guess I will have to wait on this one and see if I can get it to a repairman..Is it even worth taking in? How much would you assess it to cost? We paid 700.00 for the Tv and have just now barely paid for it. We bought it to help a lady so she could move away with her kids..So much for good deeds!

  • rezcookie Feb 18, 2008

Not worth it is it? I think you can get a HDTV mybe not as big but big enough for the same cost..

  • rezcookie Feb 18, 2008

I just went to find the fuse and couldn't but when I did I noticed that the on off switch was not turning off.( the green light is on all of the time) Could it be the switch not engaging? The green light is staying on nad you can hear it try to connest but I don't think it is. How could I fix the switch. Would I need a new one if that is the case?

  • rezcookie Feb 18, 2008

LOL I guess it is not a laughing matter but it is funny isn't it? Thank you for everything. I appreciate your help. Is there a specific place I can go for parts. I tried to look but I don't know the parts #'s. I know some sites if you put in the model; # it will link you to the right part for your appliance.
I figure I took up a good part of your day and will leave you alone after this. I sure wish the first suggestion of slapping it around a little bit would have worked..I would be all to happy to give it a wack or two!

ONE: This is an RCA set. Not a good thing - in my humble opinion. They are not a reliable brand.

TWO: The set is old enough that you should always keep in mind the
question of repair or replace. Since it is an expensive set, it should
return the investment to you; on the other hand, if the cost of
maintaining it gets out of hand it would have been better to put that
into a new set with better prospects. This can also be a transformer failure.

THREE: SO, lets now consider the symptoms of your set. The fact that
cable channel guide data is showing on the screen means the basic video
system is working. That means the power supplies and high voltage are
    in place.

FOUR: You could be in video input and there is no video and the set is
working just fine. So, we must verify the cable box or cable wiring is
giving you the right signals. The best test is to switch the tv to
video in and play a vcr or dvd through the tv. If you are getting full
picture and sound then the tv is likely not at fault.

FIVE: If you have another tv in the house, try connecting it to the
same cable wiring to see if it receives the cable programming. If not,
then the problem is wiring or cable box. If it does, then the rca may
    be at fault.

With these checks above you should be able to determine whether or not
the tv is at fault; wiring or settings on the tv. Then take the
appropriate actions. If the tv is truly at fualt, you will need a
repair tech to look at it, again.

You know, I have seen a case exactly like this and the problem turned
out to be a short in the cable coming out of the junction box on the
    wall. I opened up the box and found a short against the metal box;
moved the wire around and cleared it, put some insulating tape on the
end of th cable and it worked just fine.

Not that this is the cure
for yours, but the point is that sometimes the problems can be quite
remote from the tv set itself. That is why I asked you to check and
verify so you can learn where the real problems lie.

Here are few more trouble shooting steps you can try:

ONE: Disconnect the power cord for 4 hours. Then when you power it back
up the internal soft codes will automatically reset to factory defaults.

TWO: The whacking test is to just bang or smack the set with your hand
on the back, side, top, etc., to see if there are loose connections or
cold solder joints inside that are acting up. If so, the banging should
knock them back to normal and the set should restore. You might have
to use some creative banging and some have had to put a book or
magazine under one corner to torque the chassis enough to get it to
    work reliably.

    Hi again,

it may be the fuse also but since you have no power and no sound then the problem is with transformer and other convergence which is inside and can only be fixed if you get it repaired.

    Goodluck again..

  • Priya darshan Feb 17, 2008

this is can also be possible If No video, No audio and has the green light yet could be IC's on Large signal board, IC7402, IC7410 and IC7412

(board APD28C003) board replacement would be advised

  • Priya darshan Feb 17, 2008

For the fuse try looking in the power section some TV is located near the on/off switch.

  • Priya darshan Feb 17, 2008

Please ignore the IC no. which i gave you because it is not for ur model no. But the board replacement thing is advised to be replaced.

I would suggest you to call a technician and get it repaired.

  • Priya darshan Feb 18, 2008

It is the bad power supply..

  • Priya darshan Feb 18, 2008

the cost of repairing it will be between $300-$400.
That is all i can say..

  • Priya darshan Feb 18, 2008

I already told you that it is not worth.. please read my points one and two.

  • Priya darshan Feb 18, 2008

i can say that the cost of repair should be around $300 if there are not too many problems wid it..

Anyways make ur choice. repair or replace..

  • Priya darshan Feb 18, 2008

I suggest you once try replacing the fuse..
then go for a repair if it doesn't fix the problem

  • Priya darshan Feb 18, 2008

Well i suggest you to replace the switch as well as the fuse.

The number of horizontal output transistor is [TL 035]. If this number is not available, you can use exact substitute after reffering it to transistor data book and equivalents. OK.
