the Nintendo wii is a glorified dvd player with a few major exceptions. it sounds like the units optical pickup has dust or debris on it. try the Wii Lens Cleaning Kit at amazon for 10 bucks. very common and simple fix.
when he dropped it this will most likely crack the sensor once its cracked it will not play any disc. if your warranty is still in affect call nintendo customer service they will help you on sending it off to them so they can fix it you can get there contact info from nintendo.com if you dont have a warranty i would recommend just buying a new system and find someone who will buy your wii to sell for spare parts.
