Make sure you are threading it correctly. Typically it's from right to left.... or lower looper, upper looper, right needle, left needle. Barring that look carefully at the loopers for burs. If you find any use some fine sand paper and carefully file them away.

SOURCE: my white speedylock serger 1634 thread keeps getting in knots

i have the book and it says thread from inside out, inside looper (upper) then lower, then thread the needles, first right then left.  I have found that it does not matter if you thread the needles or loopers first but that you should try to thread from inside to out.

The original manual is out of print and all that is available now is photocopies and they cost about $15. Let me know if you still need it and your zip code so that I would know how much postage would be.

When a serger fails to sew, it is most likely because it has not been threaded correctly. Another possibility is that it is out of time.

I have a PRO 4 DE Elna Lock from 24 years ago. I can't find the diagram where it explains which spool to tighten to adjust the 4 stitch tensions, with the colours on it. Does anyone have this? Please?

Wondering if this may be helpful:

Don't know if it's the same for your machine, but most recommendations are to thread the machine with the presser foot in the "up" position. This will release the tension disks so the thread will seat properly. Also, giving each thread a little tug when threading through the tension disk sometimes helps.

Be sure to thread in the order: upper looper, lower looper, right needle, left needle.

Set all the tensions to the midway point, then make adjustments from the point.

I'm not sure how to thread my machine, I lost my manual elna lock pro 5Dc

I would suggest that you buy a new manual for this as your overlocker has 5 threads that need to be threaded up correctly to form a stitch and there are several different stitches that can be made with this model such as a rolled hem, chain stitch, three thread overlock, four thread overlock and safety stitch with three thread overlock, lots to learn.

You can buy a manual here for $USD14.99: http://www.sewingpartsonline.com/instruction-manual-elna-pro5dc.aspx
or this website has a copy for $USD10.
http://www.sewusa.com/Sewing_Machine_Manuals/Elna_Manuals/Pro_4DC_DE_Instruction_Manual.htm

Always well worth buying the manual and saving a lot of frustration trying to guess how things work and it adds value if you are going to sell the item.

You can get some general overlocker threading tips from http://sewing.about.com/od/sergersoverlock/ss/serger.htm which may help you too.

When was the Elna Pro 4DE manufactured?

I'm thinking early 90's maybe but can't find a specific release date for this model online.

I do know that the first Elna Locks were released in UK in April 1987 and first models were L-1 (3 thread), L-4 (4 thread), L-5 (combo chain and 3 thread) because I was trained to demo these models.

Differential feed was a feature that soon followed in the home lock market across all brands.

Maybe try Yahoo group Sergers and ask there, there could be some members who have this model.

JUKI MO 134 SERGER

How to Thread Juki MO-134 Serger from watching lady at Lyles. Turn upper blade up. Push in first then turn up.It makes threading easier. Blue Thread upper looper first. Pull thread through tension knob. Don'tjust lay it there. (She thought that is what I must have done) Orange Thread lower looper next. Pull thread through tension knob as inthreading upper looper. Adjust lower looper so it is right nextto upper looper so that their points are almost together and directly belowsewing needles. Lower looper will be in front of upper looper (I believe). With tread from upper looper pulledback, slightly lift lower looper above upper looper and thread. I think this isright. Pull thread back with other thread. Tension is the key. Remember that. Yellow: Thread left needle first.Remember tension. Pull thread through curled wire on left side of needle arm. Green: Thread right needle. Rememberabout tension. Pull thread through curled wire on right side of needle arm. b> Note: Before sewing turn the wheel tomake sure the stitches are going together correctly.

The order in which to thread the serger

Your serger should be color coded for threading. Just do one at a time either left to right or right to left with the cones. And you should be all set.
