As of yesterday, 6 of the 7 USB ports on my Dell XPS Dimension 9150 (XP) stopped working.
I had my printer, wireless mouse and wired keyboard plugged into the back
I had my 4-port USB hub and my headphones plugged into the front; a camera cable was attached to the hub but not to the camera.
Only
one port on the back works now. My USB hub is now plugged into that
and I have my mouse and keyboard attached. I can also plug in my
printer and headphones at the same time and everything will work. My
camera cable will not work in any port.
Here is what I have tried so far, with no success:
I unplugged everything and tried just my keyboard in each port, same with my mouse. Only the one port works.
I rebooted with only the keyboard and mouse.
I checked device manager to ensure everything was working properly.
I uninstalled all the root hubs and had Windows reinstall it on reboot.
I did a system restore to a week ago. (Everything was fine on Friday night.)
I searched for updated drivers. (None found.)
I flashed the BIOS.
I made sure the power management does not allow Windows to turn off the hubs.
What
else can I try? I have one other device I need to attach directly to
the machine instead of through the hub else it won't work.
thanks!
After all done,
Did you think of replacing motherboard?

If I had a problem with the spark plug wires on my car should I replace the engine block?
A suggestion to install a serial card would have been more appropriate. Thanks for the suggestion.
No, I have not considered the offered solution.
