We need to cut the problem in half - preamp problem or amplifier problem. Let's distill this down to its simplest form. How does it work with the speaker setup routines or plain vanilla FM tuner? Is audio produced at the Tape Output and/or headphones? Without a program there would be no sound.

So it's a basic lack of selection of the source. That let's out the amplifiers and speakers.

Let's stick with FM as the source since it can't be conencted wrong or have cabling issues. Does it indicate that it can tune a station by lighting the tuner's stereo indicator? If not, something very basic is dead. I'm wondering what you meant by "seems to do everything that it shoud". What exactly DOES work?

Did it work at one time and then stop working or is this a new installation we're working through?

So we have no Line Level audio output anywhere and it never has worked for you.

    Is it MUTING?

Just curious, in the On Screen menus, did you go through and manually define at least the front speakers and try to calibrate them? What is/was the result?

And the results of attempting to manually adjust the speaker levels??? Is muting turned on?

I have an Denon AVR-589 and it is showing (analog) but I need to change it to Digital and do not know how.

RTFM. Your external digital sources are responsible for delivering the digital content. They probably have manuals, too.

See Page 17 and consider how the digital audio is assigned (page 46).

Can't record out from a digital input

It only passes the signal it see's. Digital for Digital and Analog for Analog. Try running a Standard analog RCA from your Cable box to the receiver then try and record. Hope this helps. If you still have an issue, post a comment and I can help you further.

Analog output from digital input for Denon AVR 3803

On the Denon AVR-888 (and I presume others), you have to put the unit in "record" mode. This is covered under "Other Operations and Functions" in the manual. Here are the steps:
1. On the front of the unit, press the zone2/rec select button
2. Turn source select until "recout source" is displayed
3. Turn source select to choose the input source

Hope this helps.

Denon AVR-2105

If the Cd is wired digitally, it will only play through the main zone, because the Denon cannot convert down to RCA to cater for the zone 2. If you plug RCAs from Cd to Denon, Main zone will STILL play from digital, and RCA connection will allow zone 2 to play Cd from RCA input....same with dvd, Satellite Blah blah... no stress, any nasty RCA will do if you want to try before you splash out on really costly cables...perhaps you can help me...want to run AVR 2105 with 2 speakers in zone 2, manual says cant do it - only ably to surround back or biamp...dont want either, dont have stereo yet to try it out...did you have any trouble with that?
