Question about Whirlpool Calypso GVW9959K Top Load Washer

Machine just freezes and doesn't work - on occasion

The machine often just freezes up and none of the buttons work. If the lights do go on, it gets stuck on "Wool" mode and stays there, but does nothing else. You can't push start. None of the buttons work. Usually when the washer does this, it mysteriously will start working again maybe days later. It is stuck once again in Wool mode (but it does not RUN in wool mode, the light just stays stuck on that mode). Help!

When I press the start button it some times will not start or it my start instantly. Holding the start button down for a period off time it may start. The circuit board has been replaced once because it refused to start.Does Whirlpool have any fix for this problem. Very frustrating and expensive.

Got the exact same problem. Sometimes it would clear itself but has gotten progressively worse. Took the whole top assembly apart and could not find anything wrong. Put it back together and it worl a couple of cycles then went back to the wool mode. I dont think it is the keypad but I may be wrong. I think it is a machine control board intermittent fault with the microprocessor. Will ipdate if I verify this.

none of the buttons work, its almost as if it has no power going to it. Checked plug and it does have power. I think the matching dryer to this machine did the same thing while it was under warranty. Is there a reset button or something?

I am having the smae problem except my washer is stuck on Normal mode. When you push the start button, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. When it does start is starts to fill but then immediatley freezes back up and won't start again.

Cant get Bush WM-1260TVEME washing machine to start a cycle off the button

Check to see if the power is getting to the machine. If it ismake sure the door is closed firmly, there is a safety switch on the door. If none of these things work, you have adoor switch problem or a panel fuse out or a broken panel circuit. If you have the skills to open and troubleshoot than those are the things to look for.

My washer was on when the power went out. Now all the controll pannel lights are on and a buzzer is going off. I tried unplugging etc.

It would help to know your manufacturer and model, but most machines will react fairly well to one of the following to reset them.

Power the machine off at the mains, hold the power button in and power it back on with the power button pressed it. Depending on the machine you will get a beep or buss or light flash and then the machine will reset and all should be well.

Option 2 is a simple disconnection from the mains for 20 minutes and when you power back up, the machine may well have reset.

If this doesn't work, drop a comment back and include your make and model and I will see if I can come up with some more ideas for you

Hi Bobbie from retired Englishman in SW France,

Correct the machine's (not the load's) unbalance first by following my guidance notes. Once the machine is correctly seated on the ground you should certainly have no, or fewer, problems with the load becoming unbalanced. If it doesn't work afterwards it could be that some damage to the electronics has taken place by it being allowed to shake about. Sorry but you will need a service call to find out what is wrong. We would not be able to diagnose remotely ;-0(

It is necessary to ensure absolutely that the machine has all 4 feet very firmly on the floor, and I mean firmly ;-0)
Doesn't matter whether it is empty or not but switch it off then-
very firmly push one front corner diagonally into the centre of the machine and see if the machine moves or rocks AT ALL, even the slightest. If it does you will need the open-ended spanner which came with the (new) machine........which of course went missing a long time ago?!! An adjustable spanner will suffice.
Adjust the foot under that corner downwards until it is very firmly- almost pushing- against the floor but not so far that the corner lifts up!
If this corner did not rock do the same to the other.
Once you cannot rock the machine the slightest little bit, screw the locking nuts up tight to the underside of the machine so that they will not move. Ideally the rear feet should also be locked.

If this has assisted you please consider a 4 thumbs up for the rating.
Thanks and good luck!

How do you unlock the door when the washer freezes up?

This is a common problem, often associated with a momentary power failure when the controller doesn't get time to reset and return to an idle state before the machine gets power back and it gets "confused". Regardless of the cause, you will almost certainly find that unplugging from the mains (Not just powering off on the button, as some door locks have a sneak circuit, even when the power is turned off at the button) and leaving the machine undisturbed for a full 20 minutes will allow a reset, the door lock will disengage and all will be well when you power back up.

Washing Machine stops in cycle.

The ECU seems bad.
Look for the service manual inside and do the diagnostic test to see what is wrong.
