Question about Kenmore 31913 Progressive Direct Drive Bagged Upright Vacuum

1 Answer

How do I take the brush out?

I have a "Kenmore 31912 Progressive Direct Drive" vacuum. A string is wrapped around the brush. I am able to pull most of it out, except a part that is stuck on the left side of the brush. It is not obvious how to remove the brush assembly to take the rest of the string out. Any advice is appreciated.

Most of these progressive drives have a bottom plate that you can take off, then you can get to the brush roll asm. There will be several screws.

I have a kenmore upright direct drive vacuum. The vacuum works fine in all ways except the brush just stopped working. Any ideas?

The rubber belt which drives the brush could be broken or the brush can be clogged with string and hair etc.

BELTLESS BRUSH WILL NOT REVOLVE

I bought my parents the exact same model. Do you have the floor select switch "ON" for the brush? Did the overload protector switch trip? There is a little red button sticking out from the right hand side of the head. Check to see if it is pertruding past the cover. If so, push button in and it should reset.

Check the brush roll ends, make sure they turn freely, if not then replace it. The belt may look ok, but they stretch after a short time and should be replaced.
