Question about Harman Kardon AVR 25 MKII

1 Answer

Unit wont turn on

The unit has power. The power light comes on and is orange. There is power to the unswitched outlet on the back. When you press the power button nothing happens. Sometimes I get a clicking sound from a brown box that is maybe on a power board inside the unit ( i am not sure what the board is called ) the power cord is connected to this board.

All the fuses are good so I guess i am looking to replace the power transformer. Would that be the brown box that I would be hearing the clicking noise from?

I have the same problem. My unit is Model AVR 25II not AVR 25 MKII. I don’t know if that makes a difference. Is there somewhere that I can measure the power supply/transformer voltages (and what are the levels I should see?) that will help determine the problem? Also, where exactly is the internal transformer fuse located? Is there schematics available for this unit, especially the power supply area? Thanks for your help.

.Hi jepenny

The board you are looking at is the standby cct and power switching PCB. It sounds like that is working, so you have probably lost power to the transformer primary or the transformer is open circuit. Check for blown fuses and replace with exact same type and rating.

Be sure to unplug at the wall before touching any internals!!

If you can find no blown fuses, the power transformer may have failed. Good luck, get back to me here is you need any more advice. Thanks for using "FixYa"

The power transformer is the single largest and heaviest part in the amp. There is often a second small power transformer that is used to create the standby power. This is what is powering up the relay you here clicking, and the microprocessor that controls operation of the unit. You really need to be sure the transformer is faulty before just replacing it. Most power transformer have an internal thermal fuse that is notorious for failing. This may be your problem here, but if you are not that familiar with mains voltage power circuits, I strongly recommend you get somebody electrically savvy to look at the amp for you. I can talk them through replacing the thermal fuse inside the transformer for you.

REMEMBER mains voltages can kill you.

My AVR 25 began display these behaviors yesterday. I am "familiar with mains voltage power circuit" (BSEE) and would be interesting in your explanations on how to replace the "thermal fuse" or if this indeed was the problem.

Unit shut off. Why doesn't it turn back on?

Unswitched power has nothing to do with the power supply of the receiver. Look for blown fuses or a failed component on the power supply.

Denon dra 25 no power

John,
If you have a multi meter then unpug from mains supply. With meter
on "ohms" range check the following:-
Fuse F501 (and F502 if mult-voltage model)
yellow to white on mains transformer this should show some resistance. If you have a mult-voltage model check
brown to gray and orange to white. Both should show some resistance, if not your mains transformer has an open circuit primary winding.....

Onkyo tx-ds656 stand by power light comes on volume control knob rotates to max but display or unit wont start

Try factory reset: while holding the(CD) button on front panel, press (POWER) button.
After "Clear" is displayed the unit should be back to its factory default. :) If this dont work for you take the unit to be checked by service . :)

My HK AVR 135 wont turn on. The orange light comes on but when i try to turn it on it does nothing. It has done this before and i ust unplugged it and plugged it back in and it turned on for a brief period...

Try unpluging the unit for atleast 2 hrs. The capacitors bleed off energy very slow, thats why it needs to be unpluged for a couple hrs. If that doesnt work it usually means the powersupply is going out.

Unit will not turn on. All other components connected to the same outlet will. Is there a fuse in the AVR 125 that I need to check/change?

There is no mention of any fuse in the owners manual (downloadable from the link below)
You could try plugging an external device into the unswitched ac outlet on the rear panel to check if ac power is actually reaching the unit.

My reciever wont power on but the standby light will come on and when i press power, the stand by light just turns off

It sounds like the output transistors may be putting this into protection mode causing the unit to shut down to avoid further faults. It will need to be serviced.

Denon DRA-435R: First, the "switched" outlet on the received stopped delivering power. Now the receiver does not power on, neither using the front switch, nor the remote. The Unswitched outlet still...

from your description its should be the switch or a loss connection
if it doean not power on now it could be the fuse
if you can open the unit follow the power cord inside you should see a glass fuse look if its burn if its ok its better to take to service

Send it for repair. The receiver has a problem with power supply or a bad channel.

Won't power on

Our VSX-515-S quit suddenly while playing when it was turned up quite loud. The power would not come back on. I disconnected it, and opened it up. No fuses were blown, but there was no voltage in the power supply. When I pressed the on button, I could hear a very faint click, but no power. I even took some parts out and replaced them.

I went on line and bought a service manual download for $7.95.

Within 5 minutes, I found where the service manual said if there was a DC overload, the power would cut off. To reset, press the ENTER + ADVANCED SURROUND key simultaneously and hold for 3 seconds.

I did this and the power came back on. It even remembered the last FM station it was tuned to. Problem s.olved
