The Fujitsu Lifebook S5582 does not have an integrated Wireless network card. This laptop was manufactured in 2001-2002. The integrated Wifi card was not generaly common in laptop computers until 2004.

So, you will need to buy a wireless adapter if you want to have wifi connectivity. Since this laptop is quite old, I would recommend a PCMCIA (a.k.a. PC card) adapter instead of a USB because it will be much lighter on the processor load.

You also have to be aware that using a wireless card will use more battery power and therefore shorten the expected autonomy of the laptop when running on battery.

You are right, the Wireless connection icon will appear as soon as your wireless adapter driver will be installed correctly. So, you do not have to do anything special other than installing the card itself.

Your best solution is to plug your computer directly into your router so that it is online. Then do a system update to download the appropriate wireless drive.

I have a fujitsu siemens amilo li2727 , i can't connect wifi (carte atheros ar5007eg) under xp sp3

I might advised you to check the driver of the wireless adapter using your computer. There are some issue about the operating system like SP 3, Check the driver if it is compatible to the operating system.

Wireless network setup

Hi,

Based on your post, you currently have a working Netgear WiFi Card installed in your laptop. What you want to do is remove it from the laptop and install the said card to your desktop.

For your desktop to be able to accept the NetGear WFi card which is a PCMCIA Cardbus device, you need to install either:
1. a USB Adapter for PCMCIA as shown here; or
2. a CardBus/PCMCIA to PCI Adapter Card available here.

Either one will work. Of course you need to install the necessary drivers for the NetGear MA701NA in your desktop which is available from the CD installer that came with the NetGear or online here.

Considering the cost of the USB adapter or the PCMCIA to PCI card, you may want consider buying a PCI WiFi card or USB WiFi dongle.

Hope that this be of some help/idea. Pls post back how things turned out or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.
