Question about Philips 30PW9817 30" TV

1 Answer

TV randomely turns off

Our TV (Philips 30PW9817 30") will make a loud pop and completely turn off (pitcher and sound) the LED that is green when the TV is on will start flashing red. If we unplug the TV for a while and plug it back in, it will start working again - sometimes for a few minutes and sometimes for a few hours. But then it pops again and shuts off.

Any ideas?

I took the back off and blew it out really well with my air compressor. Put it all back together but it happened again within 10 min of turning the TV on.

What do you mean by the circuit could be overloading and how would you fix that?

It may just be a static buildup from the dust.
open the tv and blow it out with a air compressor.
if that doest not work then the circuit may be overloading.
remember it stores a charge for days.

well at this point if the dust is out.
the symptom is of many probabilities.
this is where I get a thermal meter and find any hot spots to start with. heat can lead you to the failing transistor/circuit.
I monitor the low voltage circuit.
    and the High voltage circuit.
sometime the pop is in the picture tube circuit too. it can build up a charge and feedback onto the circuit board.
most of the time you can see the spark if it does.
either way you will have to know a lot about the tv innards to be able to fix it at this point.
since it happens right away you can watch the back to see if you can catch the area it happens in. that just gives you a lead though.
of course if the pop is in the speakers its likely in the low voltage area.

Philips tv with sound going in and out

Try bypassing the set's speaker by running an external audio amp. I use my bookcase stereo for audio direct from the satellite receiver and turn the volume off on the TV. Sounds better this way! Could be the audio amp in the TV is going bad or the speaker may be bad and the TV's audio amp goes through a shut down cycle.

The power comes on and then turns off and the front green power light blinks.

There is a small IC in the power supply section,
not the IC regulator that's the problem.

ctgarden girl, my set does the EXACT same thing! I too wondered if a cold room was an issue. The set is only 4 years old, and I didn't have this problem in my old place where the room was a lot warmer.

Can someone please help?!?!?!?

A qualified tech will need to practice visual acuity technique! Look at power supply circuit for signs of stress,dis-coloration and/or bad connects.Check for bad 47mf/25v cap in area of stress.Replace BC-327-25 xistor w/BC-328 and replace BC-337-25 w/BC-338,if present in your set's chassis style.

Green Screen with some lines lines are called retrace lines. it is due to maybe dry soldered or no green drive signal. This problem can be fixed by complete soldering in crt board. 1 green video supply absent 2 loose contact in green skt in crt board 3 crt board loose 4 no green drive signal.
