I had a similar problem, took mine to a car mechanic and he was able to fix it, no problems so far. Do you know where i might get the manual for this Boomag 58cc model? Cheers

Sorry I can't help - it sounds like I have the same problem as you. I always found the engine rather 'notchy' and as such took much effort to start - then the starting mechanism fell apart (mainly sue to it being plastic.
I will keep looking around..
regards
John

Replace pullcord on craftsman 316.350840

I know that the starter assembly for Craftsman 316.350840 [ The 316 means it was made by MTD] this saw became became no longer available. But you can use this model number 41AY80AG983 [Remington also made by MTD] and get the same part (exception being that it will be Orange, instead of Black). Part number 753-06974

I have a brand new German made Boomag 58cc 20" chainsaw and am having trouble attaching the blade arm to the engine. I loosen the two bolts but the cover attached to the chain stop bar won't come loose. I...

Make sure the chain brake is released. Remove the two cover bolts completely and back off the chain adjustment screw several turns. All of this should release the cover. Make sure the chain teeth cut toward you on the bottom run. When adjusting the chain, leave the cover screws finger tight, and turn the adjusting screw CW to bring the chain up to the lower bar run, but not so tight that the chain cannot be moved by hand. Tighten the cover screws and recheck chain tension. When running, hold the bar tip near some cardboard while running at speed--it should throw off a thin line of oil onto the board. Hope this helps!

Chainsaw pull cord wont tension up

Its almost certainly made by Poulan.
This may help you find an IPL at Sears, they are available:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/modelHelp.pd?modelNumberId=29
This lists all Poulans. It will be difficult to find your saw but it is here:
Poulan.com
http://www.ordertree.com/modelinfo/POULAN-WEED-EATER/75.59.html
It sounds as though the starter spring is broken.
This thread explains how to reinstall the spring.
http://www.fixya.com/support/t1839024-broken_recoil_spring
The IPL for your saw shows all the parts and provides an idea of how they fit together. GL

Cannot start. The pullcord will not move

If it wont pull you probably have ceased the piston in some way. You can get access to the piston by removing the exhaust baffle. Or disassembling the entire saw.

Try putting a screw driver in where the exhaust and trying to move the piston just a little bit, back and forth. Once thats done, use a heavier gas / oil mixture.

Broken Pull String

Yes, it is possible that the spring needs to be pre-tensioned. its also possible that something was put together a little out of alignment, or some part is too tight and its too hard for the spring to wind in the chord. try to reassemble the chainsaw with a couple more turns on the spring and see if that helps.
