How long have you had your Wii and has it ever read a game? I've seen folks insert the disks into the Wii upside down (Hey, it's hard to tell when it's on it's side), so checking that may help. Any other issue and your best bet is probably Nintendo Tech Support.

Have Mario Kart Double Dash Gamecube disc. Trying to play on my Wii. It says, "the disc cannot be read, refer the instruction booklet". Don't have one. Any ideas?

There have been a couple of flaws in how the Wii reads Gamecube games, so this could be for a couple of reasons.
1. Some games simply just cant be read on the Wii, but it is completely determined by the game...not the Wii. This is a flaw found in mostly Gamecube games and sometimes Wii games. I have heard of Super Smash Brothers Brawl not working on certain Wii's. In your case, with Mario Kart Double Dash, it could just be that the game simply cannot be read. If this is true, then there is nothing that can be done. (You can test this by putting the game in somebody else's Wii)
2. A more common problem is scratches or fingerprints. If this is the case, then get scratch removal at the store. If you don't want to, then toothpaste will sometimes work.
3. If all else fails...read the instructions booklet.

Wii not read dvd and game

If your Wii is not reading games, and the games are not scratched or damaged, the DVD Drive inside of your Wii has probably worn out. You can find a replacement Wii Drive at the following company:

Cannot read Wii CD but can read GameCube CD

Have you tried more than one Wii game?

If you have tried more than one Wii game and none will read,
This drive should fix any reading issues you are having with your games, or issues inserting your games or ejecting them (or lack thereof). This is the entire DVD drive assembly mechanism replacement for your Wii including a new laser. If your discs are not ejecting, or you cannot insert a disc -- or you can insert a disc but it will not load, this is what you need to get your Wii going again!

My wii is having trouble reading some games but not others (example): my wii can read Mario kart for wii but not smash bros brawl for wii and it reads Zelda collectors edition for gamecube but not starfox...

make sure that your wii is fully updated by connecting to the internet and doing a check for updates, some games need updates.

try removing all memory cards before starting a game, some games dont like the cards at first.

Some games that the wii console won't play

If Wii gives Disc Read Error, first step you need to check is to try another disc or clean the exisitng disc. This will confirm that problem is with either Wii or Disc. If the console itself is giving disc read error then it needs to be repaired. You may check out DIY Wii Fix Guide, that will show step by step information to fix the problem yourself. It also gives information on fixing many Wii Related Problems, so its a kind of Wii Problems Reference Fix Guide........

Fails to read disks other than Super Mario Galaxy

Here is why Wii wants you to upgarde,

Wii wants you to upgarde since last ver. can not be hacked. So Wii makes people to upgarde by using the games, so that the more you upgarde the harder it is to hack the Wii. If Wii can be hacked, you can play copied games, you can go to blockbuter get a game, copy the game in computer and make copies at of it, so that you dont have to buy the game. And your wii is able to read the copied games

Now lets start with your problem,

Well now it will be even harder to downgrade the frimware of you Wii. (Wii doesnt want you to downgarde). Try to upragde it again if that doent work then upgarde it from the Wii's web page at Wii.com

There can be a problem in you Wii's upgardeded frimware.
