Re: phillips external hard drive
If its an usb drive, no driver is required. The drive will show itself in My Computer after it is commected. Uninstall the driver, shut down, connect the device to the computer and start the computer.Tell me if it works. Also, when posting a question, give full details.

I had a simliar problem. This is how I fixed it in XP;
Remove any attached external devices except the one having the
1. Control Panel
2. Administative Tools
3. Computer Management
4. Under Storage right click on "Disk Mangement"
5. The bad drive should show up as Disk 1 with a black bar across
6. Right click on the bar.
7.Select " change drive letter and paths " and follow the instructions.
8. If number 7 does not work, go back to the menu and select
"Format". During the FORMAT I believe you will be asked to assign
a drive letter.
9. GOOD LUCK
I acutally had this problem with two different drives. I fixed the first one using the instructions above. But the second drive didn't even show up in Disk Management. I had to return it for a new one.
There is a chance that the hard drive itself is at fault and the computer cannot recognize it try using it as a slave drive in computer. and use a recovery cd from boot to check it out You could use thee ultimate boot cd (download) to check it
The problem is that mac has a diffrent 0perating system to a pc the thing you doing by switching from mac to pc the external hard drive is conflicting with one another to make your external driver to work on your pc follow these steps. go into control panal,system,hardware,device manager,universal serial bus controllers,drivers then update drivers that should reconise your mass storage driver.
