Question about BEL 980 Radar Detector

1 Answer

Operating Voltage I want to hard wire my 980 instead of using the lighter adapter. Does the 980 operate on 12 volts or does the adapter also contain a voltage regulator for dropping to a lower voltage?

It is 12 volt (or at least mine is). You should be able to connect directly to a fused supply, but I would advise checking output with a meter.

What specifications do i use to get a replacement charger for a Peak Charging Adapter . . . . . . . . 120 volt AC (700mA, 12 volt DC Output

Just as your information says ask for a 12 volt 700 ma charger..but seeing that yours is a 450 amp jumper..any 12 volt that fits your ac input will do the job...one more thing if you do not have a charger..just connect it to your battery and run the engine for 20 min or so it will recharge the car battery and you jumper..also you can get a lighter wire with two lighter plugs and charge it through you lighter..good luck

ok you will need a 8 volt zenor diode and prob about 100 ohm resister to lower your current. if you can't build this then how about gettin a cigar ligher adapter for auto that has a voltage selector on it. and hard wire it up.

How many volts I have a charger that has different volts which one to set it on I have a whistler 1610 just trying to put the charger on the right voltage

Most automotive electronics work on a 12 Volt DC system. You must be using adapter capable of providing about 12 to 14 volts because car batteries provide 12 volts; but car alternators put out 13.8 volts. Do not attempt to connect to an adapter that put out AC voltage!

12 volt cigarette lighter socket

the lighter socket will be straight 12 volts and the GPS may require less (5.5 volts) and the different size is to prevent the over voltage and damaging the GPS unit. There may be an adaptor that will do the job and it may have a built- in transformer for the purpose.

Can you use 800mA 9.6v instead of 1.6A 19.2W adapter for pyramat s500w

Is your 1.6 A 19,2 W adapter a 9.6 Volt also???? If not, I wouldn't recommend it. You should match the operating Voltage with adapters and the pin out should be compatible as well. Hope this helps!!

I purchased a Meade DS-90AT at a garage sale but it is missing the battery pack (the holder for 10 AA batteries). I called Meade and learned it is no longer available. Any suggestions as to what I can...

You can use any 12 volt power pack like a car starter battery pack-- with the proper cigarette lighter style power cord.

Just buy one with a cigarette lighter style plug-in port- 12 volt-- you can find these at auto parts stores for about $49.

Vgn fs 980 adapter how to tell if it is not working

AC adapter? Test the output voltage.

Use a multimeter.
Stores like Radio Shack, Walmart, and auto parts stores, for a few examples have cheap one's you can buy.
About $12.

Set the multimeter knob to DC volts, and the 0 to 50 Volts scale.

The middle hole of the AC adapter plug is the Positive connection. This is where the Red lead goes.

The outer shield of the plug is the Negative connection. This is where the Black lead goes.

Look on the AC adapter for the OUTPUT VOLTAGE
(Not shouting)

Example:
I'm looking at an AC adapter for an IBM Thinkpad 370, right now.

INPUT: 100V 50-60Hz 130A
OUTPUT: 18V ~~~3.36A

The Output voltage is 18 Volts
The Output Voltage of your AC adapter should be close to this.

Please i need the power adapter rating for seagate

Have you got the original power adapter?
If so the voltage details are printed on the label on the bottom of the adapter.
If the external USB Seagate hard drive houses a 31/2" drive then it requires an power adapter that provides +12 volts and +5 volts both supplying approx 2000mA of current.
If the Seagate uses a 21/2" (laptop) hard drive then it only requires +5 volts power adapter.
The only problem is the power connector to the external drive, make sure it suits the external hard drive unit and the power pins are correctly wired for the Seagate. If the polarity of the plug is incorrect lt wired (ie reverse polarity) then it could damage the USB hard drive and adapter case.

Tottom direct power supply

No, it will fry the unit!!!

You need the cigarette lighter adapter to bring the voltage down to 5V. More than 5V will fry the One.

I need to charge my Eee PC notebook from a 12volt supply.

very cheap $10 solution!

buy a "car charger" (fits in cigarette lighter socket)
for the eeepc. Many people sell these on Amazon and EBay for about $10.

This thing converts the 12 volts available out of the cigarette lighter socket,
to about 9.5 volts for the eeepc input..That's exactly what you need,,, right?

if you need a different connector for the 12 volt side, go to Radio Shack and
get a socket adapter or socket adapter into just two wires (red and black).

You didn't say where you are getting the 12 volts from (car battery?)
