my washer agitator comes off while washing also, can't keep it on, it floats up and doesn't work. I can't see any way to lock it on.

Add me to the list, mine comes off too and it drives me crazy because if you have liquid softener in it, it all comes out. I think it's the plastic ring inside the bottom of the agitator that is slipping and pushing it up. Hopefully this can be fixed.

Same problem as others. The bolted down section of the agitator is not the problem. The area that keeps the fabric softener and screw cap works itself up off the tube that is bolted down.

Same problem with the auger plastic piece that won't snap into place anymore to the fixed agitator. Apparently, the only fix is to replace or glue as suggested in this thread. The plastic becomes worn and won't mechanically hold in place anymore. We have 5-years into this machine and hope for five more. I'll go with the glue idea.

I have the same problem - the bolt is tightly holding the agitator, but the top part just lifts up while working, so it is completely ineffective! Has anyone found a solution? If it is posted I've missed it... can you re-post?

    Thanks!

If its the fabric softner  top section thats coming off the agitator, than the holding edges are probably worn  and unless you have to remove this section often glue it down other wise replace it

No, there is no bolt. It is some misdesigned plastic clip on for the top agitator. An idiot designed this. Better have some really strong water proof glue for this fix as there is a lot of upward force on the agitator.

What you need to do is run washing machine cleaner through the machine, typically monthly. Do not disassemble, you will not find anything that you can help with.
Also, be certain that you are having successful vacuum break at the discharge point of the drain hose. Sometimes you can draw water back into the machine. BE sure that you have a p trap on the drain into which you are draining.

Knocking noice in agitation cycle

Do you get same sound if you run through a wash cycle empty (no clothes?) using detergent? If so, then likely a basket support has come loose (check deep inside along top ring). If not, then you may be overloading washer (unless using different sized loads), or the agitator is not working like it should, and basket is torquing.

Agitator top part is lose

pop the top off your agitator. There is 4 small plastic pieces that make the top part of the agitator work. Remove the 7/16 bolt in the center of the agitator and pull the top of the agitator out. Replace what they call a dog kit. Go to any parts store and they will know exactly what your talking about. They are olny about 6 bucks. its an easy fix so no need for a service technician.

I have roper washing machine

I don't know if the agitator is turning or not but the whole agitator is lose from the bottom part of the agitator. The washer also leaks. We have checked all of the hoses etc and there is no problem with that. We wonder if the leak isn't coming from the agitator being lose.
