T40 's are known to have issues with flexing motherboards because of how thin they are. This coupled with a weak solder on the GPU causes it to become lose and cause garbled screen or even worse, no video output at all. I would suggest looking into finding a someone who will try and re-solder the GPU. Google will help you the most!
That's not a solution
My T40 is too sensitive, when I move it the screen goes black
that was a long time before
Now, I have lucky if i got it on a long time without freezen and genttin' the black screen
People tell that is a video card problem
I replaced and I have no changes
I open it and I wondered that the case is "curving" the mother
when i put some presure on the edges, the computer starts and work
It's not easy to solve this problem. It's not a great deal buy a T40...
good luck
Do not shake your laptop.
There are components, like hard disk, graphics card, that are sensitive to shakes.
If you have Windows 7, follow these instructions to change what your laptop does when you close it's lid. If this is helpful, please give me a good rating.
Click on Start -> Control Panel
In the Control Panel Search box, type Power and press Enter
Click on "Change what closing the lid does"
Choose your desired settings and click Save changes.
